Los Angeles looked too calm for what the morning was supposed to be. The streets were washed in soft light, the kind that made glass shine and nerves hide. The city, always loud and restless, seemed to be holding its breath — as if even it knew that something was about to be decided.

Jonathan didn’t have a retort to that and bent his head in defeat. Lucian walked toward the window. Downtown Los Angeles looked like a toy city from up here—glittering, hollow, unfeeling. He wasn’t a man who romanticised this place. He wasn't mesmerized by this city's lights even as a kid. He didn’t fall for city lights or the skyline’s cheap magic. LA had never set his heart racing. Very little ever did. But today, something caught.

He was smiling but his eyes turned dark sliding down to her full ripe breasts, least obeying the instructions of his mind to be a gentleman. But thankfully she did not notice the bastard in him who was playing games. “Los Angeles is famous for its serene blue water beaches. Secondly, it's the home of Hollywood celebrities. They have hooded eyes which look similar to someone whom I have been slowly getting to know in recent times.” “I am sure they will be more than happy to go on a date with a beautiful girl like you. Do you want me to help you with it?” Saul gave a naughty simper. He probably has got an idea about whom she is talking about.

The taxi came to a smooth halt outside a tall, aging building nestled on a quieter street west of downtown Los Angeles. The area had a strange silence about it—neither too dark nor too loud, yet it felt like the city had forgotten this corner of itself. Streetlamps buzzed overhead, casting a pale orange hue across cracked sidewalks and rusted stair rails.

LAX Airport Los Angeles, California. A pair of bright brown eyes looked stern at the clock. As if a mental power could speed up time. She would be working until noon, she had arranged it with her boss. She had to take her SAT's. In just a few more minutes, she would have to get up from there and get in the first cab she could find in order to make it in time to Campus. That was plan B. She decided to apply for Art and Architecture at UCLA as her second —and most realistic— option after applying for Archaeology at the American University in El Cairo.

The air was hot and damp, filled with dust and noise. I quickly crossed the express road leaving the honking from the cars littered on the expressway behind. There was a rapid traffic flow of cars on the expressway and people walking fast trying to cross before the traffic eased up. There was constant honking and swerving around the sluggish drivers, the walking people shouted and dodged the car before they got hit. This was Los Angeles at its finest.

I wasn't exactly the person he wanted to see or even talk to in his life so why bother?. He opened the door and I scowled at the sight in front of me. I was once in his shoes.

ARES’ POV The city lights flickered past us as I drove through the shadowed streets of Los Angeles. The scent of concrete and late-night tacos hung in the air, mixed with a distant saltiness from the ocean breeze. The occasional palm tree whizzed by, casting fleeting shadows across the dashboard. From the corner of my eye, I kept stealing glances at Noah.

When he got outside the city it got a little easier to get through and Connor stepped on the pedal, he had turned on the radio and the news was discouraging to say it mildly. The earthquake had reached 8,8 on the Richter scale, the worst to hit the area and they expected a lot of bad minor quakes to follow, it had hit the whole coastline, from San Diego and up to San Francisco, but LA had been hit the worst. He didn't really want to hear about the devastation, it sounded like something from a bad disaster movie, but he had to keep the channel on to hear warnings and which roads were accessible. As he got closer to Los Angeles the destruction got worse and it got more difficult to get through

“California has spectacular beaches.” She glanced at him sidelong. “I suppose you mean in the Los Angeles area.” And she was on to him already. “San Diego is better, but yeah, Los Angeles isn’t too shabby.” “Uh huh. I thought the beaches in California were toxic.” “Not all of them. Have you ever been to California?” She hesitated. “Well, no, but I’m sure I’ll get there eventually.” Did that mean she was considering joining him? Doubtful.
