I can’t believe you single-handedly took down two wolves in less than five minutes!” “You’re in my way,” I said with a burning in my chest. “Move.” “Alpha, we – we brought you this drink.” The one with the drink pushed it towards me. “You worked hard so have a drink. Our pack had a few smaller bars, but usually when wolves wanted to go dancing or party, they went to bars in the human towns were they had larger populations. We pre-selected five bars that we knew had good music, plenty of room to dance, and were likely filled with more wolves than humans. The latter bars tended to be ones owned by packs, even though they were on human/ neutral territory.

Two wolves ghost past us, their gray coats blending into the fog. But the eerie silence cracks as we reach the bar. I duck inside, finding myself cloistered in pale wood paneling and the scent of beer and fish on the grill behind the shabby front counter. A few men sit near the bar or around high top tables. A trio of wolves accepts brown paper bags of what must be an early lunch from the bartender before brushing past us. Everyone looks at me and Ryan. Everyone is dressed in rainwear, thi

"We'd have three blood orange mimosa, and one mimosa," he says ordering the drinks for us, a blood orange, code word for real blood and champagne, no real orange involved in the mimosa.

Even the younger wolves, normally bounding with energy, moved with caution, eyes darting nervously. Then I saw him. Lukas Hale. He was near the armory, hands resting lightly on the weapon rack, eyes scanning the room with a calm that made my fur bristle. Calm. Too calm. I froze, instincts screaming. Lukas. My trusted defender, the elite Blackridge Wolves defenseman, the wolf I’d relied on countless times during games and pack drills. My friend. And now…something darker hovered around him.
