After I moved into my new apartment, my neighbor, Bianca Ferraro, started showing up at my door every evening for a free meal. I lived alone and always cooked more than I needed. For the sake of keeping the peace, I did not mind sharing. That changed one workday at 3:00 am, when someone pounded on my door and yelled, "Open up! My boyfriend's waiting at the bar downstairs. Make me a cheese platter and open a bottle of red wine. I need to bring it down." I opened the door, still half-asleep, and stared at Bianca standing in the hallway. "You're serious?" She rolled her eyes. "Don't act like it's such a big deal. It won't even take you that long." My temples throbbed. "I'm not your pers

I wasn’t even sure if he’d gotten everything settled with his frat brothers when he drove me to the airport in the morning. I tried to let those thoughts fade away while on my flight home. I put in my earbuds and decided to listen to one of the smutty werewolf audio books Hana has gotten me hooked on, Alpha Gray by CJ Primer, with Theo and Maddie as narrators. The book is HOT, and Theo’s voice… yeah, it makes for an enjoyable two-and-a-half-hour flight. I love how he changes his voice when speaking for each Alpha. Hana told me they’ve done the narration for the rest of the series, and I can’t wait to listen.

Sophie. Morning. Hope you survived the gala and Carter’s temper. Sending you some links—audio books and podcasts. Not just Pilates, but history, politics, even Austen. You don’t need paper to learn, Amber. There are other ways. The words doubled and slid. I could read, I always could, but when nerves were bad the letters fought me, mocking. I tapped the text-to-speech icon. The phone’s voice was flat, but at least it didn’t laugh when my brain twisted words. Wellness. Pilates basics. U.S. history. Austen. Relief spread through me so fast I almost laughed.

Hope rose in Eva as she rushed to the CD player in the middle of the library. She placed the CD in the tray and pushed the tray in. When no sound came from the speakers Eva turned the knob making the volume rise all the way. Still nothing. Frustrated Eva ejected the tray and flipped the CD. She once again pushed the tray in and this time there was a slight hum to it. Eva walked to her windowsill and waited for the audiobook to start. "Oh! Fuck me! Oh yeah! Ah! Ahh!" The loud sounds of moaning and groaning filled the quiet Library scaring Eva half to death. THIS WAS NOT AN AUDIOBOOK!

I manage to say before my vision is blocked by a black wall, and waves of electricity pulse through my brain. I gasp, but as quickly as the electricity appeared it disappears, and my vision returns. "Can you understand me," the woman asks and I look at her with a bewildered expression. "I am sorry I could not warn you about the pain. That implant will let you understand all known languages. It is also a way you can d******d known information. My name is Hursee. I am a nurse here at the clinic. Your correspondent will be notified of your arrival. I am sure they will be sending someone

She sat down behind the bus driver as the doors closed behind her. Ellie pulled out the phone her mom had given her in the car before they had left and turned it on. She scrolled through the apps, noticing a notification indicating she had 3 new text messages. She ignored the notifications and opened the audiobook application. Her finger scrolled through the books loaded on the phone and the books she could d******d. She pulled out the headphones that came with the phone, plugged them in, and scrolled through the preloaded classics on the app. Tears came to her eyes as she saw Pride and Prejudice. She hit play, settled her head against the glass window, closed her eyes, and listen to the soo
