Livia’s POV I didn’t even hesitate again as I needed to clear the air. I could see the curiosity in his eyes as he awaited an answer from me. “I heard it at the party,” I said smoothly, my voice calm, almost careless. “Someone mentioned it and it was on the news too.” I said calmly. The lie slipped out effortlessly too effortlessly. Hayden didn’t respond immediately and that was the problem. The silence with Hayden was never empty. It was calculating.

Liam follows after her and I apologize over and over again, everything becoming a blur as I'm transformed into a kind of daze. Suddenly, I get a sick feeling to my stomach and I lean over the toilet and empty my stomach into it. I apologize again until I have no idea what I'm talking about anymore and I just let them both hug me, wrapping me in a sandwich of comfort. The story comes out on its own. I tell them everything. I tell them how happy I was that he's back. I tell them what happened with Tom. I finish off by telling how I had to leave, and they thankfully don't push me. Even in my weak state, I know I can't tell them what he did.

I asked, looking Liam in the eyes. His dark green eyes moved around the room, and I could tell he was really trying to think. I still knew all of his habits, how he acted and moved. It felt so strange, knowing a person so intimately but not having that emotional connection anymore. Eventually, he shook his head. “I’m sorry, Grace, I don’t know. I swear I’ve never heard anything like this. Who told you this story and why is it so important to tell me?”

Her words struck a chord within me, and I couldn't help but smile awkwardly in response. "Don't be surprised," Lia continued, her smile growing wider. "Liam told me everything." My eyes widened in shock. Liam had confided in Lia. I hadn't expected that. But it also made me feel a sense of relief. "Let's go," Lia said, grabbing my hand tightly. She pulled me towards the bus, and we ran together, the wind whipping through our hair. I could feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins, and for a moment, I forgot about the complicated situation waiting for us inside the bus.

But she had looked me in the eyes and claimed it was fatigue, it was grief. And I had believed her. I had chosen to believe her because the alternative had been unthinkable. And now she was gone. "She made me promise not to tell you," Lia said from behind me. Her voice was small, like one who felt so guilty. "I should have broken it sooner. I know that. I've known that for days." With a small wave, she and Dr. Daniels walk away, leaving me standing there, stunned. What the hell? She was telling the truth all along. "Fuck," slips out of my mouth as I wince at my own stupidity.

“You are lying because you can see I’m not going back with you so you decided that the best way to go about this would be to bring up unnecessary lies. You know, I should have known better but I thought you were my friend. You’re just as good as the rest of them back there. You lie to get what you want. I’m sure you can do anything to push me away from Nathan and try to snuggle back into me. I won’t let that happen.” But he wasn’t fazed by my words. “Liam is my son,” he said without giving me time to breathe from the earlier lies he had spoken. “And I should have said this before but I left because I couldn’t bear the pain of you not recognizing me after your accident.” What?
