I would do anything to stop the empty burn inside. Charles halted and when I lifted my head I realized we had arrived at the living room. But it was completely dark, with no sign of Jared. Seeing how dark the room was, something told me whatever humiliating experience Jared had planned would definitely cut deep. “Mr. Kingsley, I’ve brought your dog,” Charles said, speaking into the darkness. Inside, chained to the wall like a fucking animal, was a mad-looking man — wild eyes, matted hair, clothes torn and filthy. He was hunched over something on the ground. Wait… Peanuts! The man had his teeth sunk into my dog’s hind leg.

I furrowed my brow, not getting it. Makayla groaned and flicked me on the forehead. “101 Dalmatians, numbnuts. Pongo was the dad dog. He wanted to find his owner a woman, and started looking around till he spotted Perdita and her owner. He dragged his owner to the park, and in his attempt to get the owners together, he jumped on them, and they fell into a pond.” She explained. “That was their meet-cute, and it’s now your meet-cute with that girl. Though I don’t think it will turn into some epic love story with you having to buy a big house in the country for all the puppies, your dogs make.” She chuckled.
