COLD STEEL, BLEEDING HEARTS
She wasn’t even sure this was Earth.
She stood on a giant floating page. It stretched out for miles, and all around her other pages drifted through a deep purple sky. People moved across them, living out different lives, like actors in a hundred plays at once.
“Julian?” she called, and her voice just echoed and echoed.
“Right here,” he gasped, pushing himself up a few feet away. He looked pale, soaked in rain that still glowed. He got to his feet, legs shaking. “Where are we? This looks like a library for giants.”
