A man stepped out — tall, broad, with a smirk that made my skin crawl.
He looked at Derek.
Then at me.
Then back at Derek.
“Well, well,” he drawled. “Blackwell. You’ve been busy.”
Derek’s entire body went still.
“Turn around,” he said to me quietly.
I didn’t move. Couldn’t, really.
The stranger’s eyes slid back to me, slow and assessing.
“This must be the human.” He looked disgusted.
Declan made a strangled sound — not scared, but offended on my behalf. I straightened my shoulders, making myself appear taller, and made the same offended noise as Declan.
