She turned slowly, gripping the railing for support. Ryke stood a few feet away, tall and imposing in the moonlight. His dark hair was slightly tousled from the wind, his muscular frame clad in simple but well-fitted dark leathers that accentuated his broad shoulders and powerful build. The scar on his jaw caught the light, adding to the quiet lethality he carried like a second skin. His eyes, dark, steady, and filled with that same intensity she remembered from their spar locked onto hers.

Then… Click. The lights suddenly came on, bright and blinding. Shivers ran down my spine. I froze in place. Slowly, I turned toward the light switch. Ryder stood there. He wore nothing on top except a pair of thick jogger pants hanging low on his waist. His bare chest rose and fell with heavy breaths. His blue eyes glared at me like they could start a fire any second. “You’re clubbing now?” He asked.

Before Keira could respond, the door slowly opened, and Ryk stepped inside, a bowl of steaming soup in his hands. His large shoulders filled the room, and his dark eyes immediately lit up as he saw Keira awake. “You’re up,” he said, a big smile breaking across his face, the smile made his scars of battle look like lines drawn by a child. “I mean it’s about time, wolf girl.” He said smiling. “You made us worried.” He added. Keira managed a weak smile, her burns hurt even more as she shifted. “Ryk,” she said, her voice sounded excited despite the pain from talking.

But then the ground shuddered. A roar split the air, rattling my bones. The jagged hole in the fortress flared with black fire as something massive stalked through. Ryker. His half-Lycan form filled the night, monstrous, fur bristling with veins of shadow. His eyes glowed like pits of molten blood, his grin a jagged wound. He stopped when he saw us—Lyra kneeling over me, her light spilling into my broken body. “How touching.” His voice carried like thunder. “The little witch wasting her light on a man already drowning in darkness.”

I clicked on my lighter, but nothing happened. “Here,” and a flame appeared from my right. I leaned in, pulling on my cigarette to get it going. I looked further up the arm, and there stood a young man, probably a little older than me but not a lot. He had a buzzcut, something that looked like he did it himself, with impeccable green eyes. “Don’t mind Ed,” he said, a small smile playing on his lips. “He was born that way, and we can’t seem to change it.” His accent was so thick, I had to concentrate a little to understand what he said. “I’m Liam,” he ended, holding out his hand.

Pain exploded through me, and I curled up instinctively. They dragged me back to the warehouse. The man spat on the ground in disgust before storming out, leaving me alone with my fading consciousness. After what felt like an eternity, the heavy iron door creaked open, and Elliott Reynolds stepped in, silhouetted against the light. His familiar, nonchalant drawl broke the silence. "Wow, look at you. A few days out of sight and you turn into a total mess."
