“Feeling for its resonance. Magic, technically.” “Metal is magic?” “No, not on its own, but it holds magic in different volumes depending on the chemical makeup. It’s like… teeny-tiny, damn near microscopic traces of our world's magic trapped within, and people like me can draw it out and manipulate it.” “But you don’t like tin, huh?”

But I didn't like the idea. Could my magic do more? I wanted to believe the answer was yes. If I learned to control it. Make it do what I want. Magic, like the swords, was a tool, one I was learning to use. As I headed down the expansive corridor, I decided I would do better.

With heartbreak at every turn, and a possible new relationship on the horizon, what could possibly go wrong in this world that hasn't happened to me on Earth?!

It worked. The tiny crimson bead hovered in front of me, trembling slightly. I didn’t try to do anything else. Just held it there. The magic felt strange. Not violent like before. But not calm either. Unstable. Like a wild animal that might bite if I lost control for even a second. I slowly lowered the drop back onto the counter.
