Like I wasn't allowed to be seen with another woman. Not that there was anything to explain. There was nothing between Lilith and me. Never had been. She worked with me—and with Palermo. That was it. She'd come to the club after the call I got. Palermo had another task lined up. One of his usual veiled threats disguised as orders. I needed someone I could trust on the ground, and Lilith had been nearby. It was supposed to be a quick meet. Business. Strategy. End of story. But Maya had walked in and saw what she wanted to see.

"How’s the arm?" Lyra didn’t answer. Rylan turned to Kael. "My offer still stands. One signature. One mark. Say she’s mine. And I’ll give you this." He dangled the vial. Kael’s fists clenched. "Touch her and I’ll kill you." "You could try," Rylan smiled. "But she’ll lose her arm while you do." Lyra watched both of them. Her chest hurt. Not from the arrow. From being fought over like a prize.

I finally arrived at Hill Pack — the heart of Lupus Celestial. Chase was already waiting at the port, standing beside a sleek black limousine. Tall, broad-shouldered, and exuding dominance, he looked every bit the future Lycan King. But even from a distance, I could tell — he was growing impatient. I approached slowly. “Brother Chase,” I said softly. He froze. His sharp eyes scanned me, stunned by what I had become. I looked down, clutching my hands together to avoid his gaze.

Lilith noticed me first. "Hey," she said, standing from where she was seated. She let the blanket covering her lower body fall to the ground before handing the popcorn bowl to her brother, who stared at me with uncertainty in his eyes. Lilith did a little stretch; the purple polka dot top she was wearing rode up a little, showing her tiny baby bump, and the shorts she wore were too short. I frowned as the short outline the shape of her perfect creamy thighs, and when she turned, I could almost see her butt cheeks.

“But why? She’s so young.” Ailm lowers her head slightly. “War is coming. I can feel it in my bones. I had no choice.” Caden reaches for her again—but freezes. On his palm, a strange mark glows: a circle with a cross inside. Ailm nuzzles it. “It’s like a current,” he says, shocked. “It’s an Ailm mark,” she explains. “We are fated. Not just mates—fated. A rare, divine connection.” Drake stiffens. “Will Baylee wear the same mark?”

Aeth growled, pushing so hard against the surface like he was looking forward to tearing someone apart. Raymond clapped slowly as he turned to Lilith. “Congratulations. Seems your mission here is getting accomplished.” “I did not mean to cause any dissent. I just needed to put a stop to these,” Lilith said softly, with a stormy expression that made her whitish-grey eyes darker. “And about the attacks, I actually have something to say about them too.” That got everyone's attention, which infuriated Raymond further. She was working the crowd effectively with those guilty looks and soft words, yet they did not even see it.

Its surface rippled like water disturbed by an unseen hand. “…and so it shall again.” The whisper licked across her skin. A shiver raced down her spine. She pressed her palm to her stomach, instinctively protective—and gasped. Beneath her hand, something flared. Not the gentle warmth of life she had come to know, but a sudden, searing heat that cut through her like a blade of light. “Kilian…” she whispered, voice trembling. The mark appeared as if drawn by invisible fire—thin lines of silver and black tracing across her skin in a shape she could not yet understand. A crescent, yes, but shadowed. Imperfect. The light and dark interlocked like two halves of a wound.

​"Now, Aris!" ​As the doctor quickly hooked up the leads and adjusted the sensors, I stood back, my hands trembling. I stared at her neck. The Mark, that beautiful curse that had started all of this, was no longer its usual faint silver. It was pulsing. A toxic, bruised violet light emanated from her skin, casting an eerie glow across the underside of her jaw. It looked like a living thing, a parasite gorging itself on whatever was left of her spirit. Just like it did with the void.

But pictures of odd creatures. As she stopped to look at them, her father did too. She moved closer to the first portrait. Her eyes scanned every piece of it. The dark, yet thin pelt of the wolf stood out. Their bright color amber golden eyes struck her to the core and she got eerily nervous. She then turned her attention to how the wolf was not really a wolf, but a humanized version of itself. It’s ears standing to point, as if pointing at the moon. The snot, much longer than normal wolves. The normal canines a wolf would have, these ones were elongated and sharp looking. And it’s claws, also long and sharp. “Four at three o’clock!” shouted Lilith as she ducks low and aims her pistol to the right. “Got it!” Mar answered back. She raised her rapier straight in front of her and flashes forward, flicking her wrist as she did. The tip of her sword left a trail of burning light in the air and sent a spiral wave of fire towards their approaching enemies. As she moved forward for close combat, Lilith takes care of the others approaching them, never missing a target.
