Were you lying?” “No fuckin’ way.” She smiled, the dimple on her right cheek sinking in and I couldn’t stop myself from running my thumb over it. “I’ve been on the pill for three months,” she said. “You got tested. Why are you being such a pussy about it?” I chuckled. Goddamn, I loved this woman. We might not be much more than kids, but I knew how I felt. “You callin’ me a pussy?” She tapped my chin with her finger. “Only if you don’t get your face in mine pretty damn quick-like.”

Lucian asks. "Yes. Very clever of him. He's painted us into a corner…treat you perfectly or face international scrutiny." She doesn't sound angry, just resigned. "Which means we need to be even more careful about boundaries and consent." "Good," I say. "We could use more careful." Today's testing is different. Less invasive. More observational. They have us sit in a comfortable room, just existing together, while cameras record. No separation. No stress tests. Just documentation of normal interaction.

This was my first test and there was no space to consider failure. I flicked my pen up and down my fingers waiting for his instruction to open the scripts. He stood by his table and observed us for a while before he permitted us to flip the scripts over. "Fifteen minutes... You have fifteen minutes to round up," he said. His tone was so strict. I could sense he wasn't joking with anything he said. But at the same time, none of us had prepared adequately for the test. The questions all looked foreign. The answers to most of the questions were vague in my head, and that left me racking my brain hard in an attempt to figure out the whole answer.

There was a computer which faces out of the window. Making it more like having the sky and buildings in the background. As he was looking out of the window, a bird few buy and then a plane also in the distance. Looking to his far left was a 42 inch TV which was on at the moment and was displaying my daily dose of CNN.

Malrick continued. “We begin with the simplest test. Stand motionless for ten minutes. No shifting, no scratching, no speaking. Begin now.” Most failed within the first two minutes. Rylan fidgeted. Set the timer for three minutes that feel like three hours. Please, I pray to whatever force in the universe decides these things. Please let this work. Please let my body do this one thing right. Please don't let me have survived surgery just to fail at the one thing I survived for. Two minutes pass. The test is still blank. One minute left. Still nothing. Thirty seconds. The control line appears. The test is working. Fifteen seconds. Still just one line. Five. Four. Three. Two. One. One line.

My mind is completely preoccupied that I didn't notice that we're already reached our destination. My heart beats faster as we reached the room. This is called "Audio-Visual Room" one of the facilities that are built to test the usability factor of a product.
