But then— Relief. Instantly, every ache vanished. The throb in my leg was gone, my back no longer ached, even the scratches from the bats had disappeared. I felt… alive and strong. My wolf stirred with a vitality I hadn’t felt in years, stretching inside me like it had just been freed from chains. I unfastened the clip in my hair, letting it fall in long, loose waves around my shoulders. Carefully, I cut a single stem of the Lion’s Mane, wrapping it in my hair until it was snug, and then clipped it in place to hold it secure.

Do I look really ugly with these scars that I can’t be recognized after claiming that fact? A tear escape my eyes as the images of my past flashed back repeated. Where my pack bullies me repeatedly behind my father’s back. When I was supposedly enjoying my childhood with the girls of my age rather than locking myself up in my room. "Tomorrow night, every Alpha from here to the Northern border will be in that room," he rasped, his dark eyes meeting mine in the glass. "They'll try to intimidate you. They want to look for weakness in my pack. But when you walk in by my side, looking like this... they'll know that touching you means war." He turned me around in his arms, his large hand coming up to gently frame my face. "I'm glad to have you beside me, Scar. More than you know."

Damon said, formally. He took my hand, and made a very public display of lovingly kneading my hand on the table. “Well, it's just another lunch off the palace’s budget to me.” Adrian joked, and Damon and I laughed.
