I turned looking at her in surprise as my eyes wideneds “You, me, Luna… even offered to call in James and Theo from the garden.” She shook her head, a faint smile touching her lips. “Said, ‘If we’re all living here, we might as well eat like we mean it ” That didn’t sound like Nathan at all. The Nathan I knew took his meals alone, if he took them at all. More often, he’d grab something on the way to the studio or skip entirely. A shared breakfast felt strangely… domestic. And dangerously inviting.

~*~*~*~ An hour later, she’s dressed and ready and finishing up her breakfast while watching her brother-in-law have his third serving of food. “How can you eat so much food, Julio?” She asked. “My motto is; eat like you’re about to take the electric chair.” He tells me with a smug look on his face. “Where did that even come from?” She asked while she laughed. “When a criminal is on death row, before he is killed, they give them a lot of food. It’s their last meal before they send them to the afterlife.” “So, you eat as though you are about to be sent to the afterlife?”

“Eat. You’re skinny. You young people should focus more on your diet” I picked up the new cutlery and slowly began eating. Maybe staying here wasn't that bad, at least, someone here is human and warm.

“I can’t believe I’m eating this much.” “It’s all part of the package,” Jennie says with a shrug. “You’ll get used to it. Plus, you’re going to need your strength.” I pause, my fork halfway to my mouth. “Huh? Get used to this nightmarish thingy?” Jennie shakes her head. “Nope. I think lifestyle is a better way to put it.” Great. Just what I need. “Fine,” I say, my mouth full of food. “Bring it on. But I’m gonna need a lot more of this to survive.”

"It's freedom, Cale. It means we aren't running on fumes anymore. We can buy gas. We can buy food. We can buy... I don't know, curtains?" "The current window treatments are adequate." "They're dusty sheets tacked up with nails." "They provide privacy. Functionality is one hundred percent." Elion laughed. He kissed Cale’s cheek. "We're going shopping," Elion announced. Cale stiffened. "Shopping? We have supplies. Pasta. Canned vegetables." "We have survival rations. I want dinner. A real dinner. Roast chicken. Potatoes. Salad. Maybe a pie." "Pie," Cale repeated. "Cherry?"

Beside her, Bella balanced a shopping basket on her hip, scrolling through her phone like she had all the time in the world. “Don’t forget we still need tomatoes,” Lisa said, checking the list on her own screen. “I know, I know,” Bella replied, slipping her phone back into her purse and tossing a pack of spaghetti into the cart. “You’re acting like I’m about to starve you.” Lisa chuckled and grabbed a jar of peanut butter. “You’d be the one starving if you kept living on instant noodles. You need real food, Bella.” “Instant noodles are real food,” Bella said with a grin. “Quick, cheap, and they never complain.”

5 million dollars and a life of luxury. My adoptive parents, playing the odds, signed me up along with my sister, Janet Cooper. We battled through tough challenges like we were heroes in an epic saga, and we finally reached the grand finale. It was a showcase of talents. Janet insisted on serving her signature beef and veggie stew to impress Galarva, so I shut that crazy idea down immediately. I had to break it down for the whole family. In Indoria, cows were considered holy, and eating beef could land us in serious trouble with the law.

"So what if you know?" Daniel said. "You took more stomach meds, which means you're back to absorbing everything I eat. "In a few days, I'll stream myself eating ten pounds of mashed potatoes. You can wait to die. You'll stay put until then. If you survive, consider yourself lucky. If not, you can only blame yourself." Ten pounds of mashed potatoes would wreck anyone's stomach. Daniel was dead set on trading my life for his live stream views. "Don't even try anything," he added. "You're not breaking the link unless I die."

Nothing else matters to a starving girl ! I strut towards the long table that had various kinds of foods . I grab a plate and the worker posted at the stall helps serve the food onto it . I decide to get a blueberry muffin , sausages and salami with eggs and bacon . Michael stares at my plate , probably wondering if I can finish everything I've gotten . " How do you eat all that and not get fat . Aren't you a human ? " He asks . I scoff . " I still have vampire genes "
