I didn't know.” “Oh… we…it was just for a short visit,” Kim said, fidgeting. She cradled the coke and sat on the couch. Kai kept watching her, a calculating look in his eyes, like they were both keeping something from me. “Okayyyy,” I muttered. “Kim, can I have a word?” Kai asked. Kim stood and headed for the door.

Afterwards, the door was unlocked and opened. Layla walked in, wearing a gloomy expression as she approached us. She got to both of us then scanned the living room. "It was Traven." I clarified and she nodded. "Did he actually act anyhow convincing for you when you said you liked him?" Layla's eyes grew wide at Adalyn's voice. "How can Kaiden be getting married next week?" "Kaiden's getting married next week? Wow, someone's marrying that asshole?" She shook her head then froze as her head rotated to me, probably just heard Adalyn well enough. "You told Kaiden you liked him?!" She screamed. Her loud voice frightened me.

“Is he…” he trailed off, suddenly realizing that he was surrounded by people. Kai looked at his son for only a brief moment before turning his head back to me. His eyes closed for a few beats too long as he processed the news. I realized that he knew for certain in those very moments. “You two know each other?” The principal asked. “Yes, Lily and I have met,” Kai replied harshly, his eyes never leaving hers after he opened them. “Wow. You knew the President, mommy?” Kaiden looked up at me in wonder. I stifled my reaction and smiled.
