Longing Rusted Furnace Daybreak Novels & Stories

~AURORA ~ ༺༺♡♡༻༻ Dawn broke bright and very early, shining through the window along the far walls. I got up from the bed, my whole body aching painfully which made me wince as I tried to get up. It is another day. Another day as the rejected mate, without my child and the mate of the three rogue brothers. The absurdity as usual, made me laugh in my head. What exactly is today going to hold, I wonder?

But then, something shifted in the atmosphere as a low, deep groan sliced through the ringing silence. Kane. The brute stirred, twitching a thick-fingered and shaky hand. He slowly pushed himself up onto an elbow, trying to rise from the rubble of his body, and grabbed at the iron bars of a nearby shelf with a white-knuckled grip, using it to haul himself upright. His chest heaved, and when his eyes opened, they burned with a feral, undefeated light. I quickly turned, and there I felt a cold trail of sweat cutting a path down my temple.

Call it magic or mystery, but what should have been a two-day journey ended in one. I drove through the gates of the Union—an ancient structure, dark and brooding like its occupants. Exiting the car, I charged to the entrance and wrenched the door and windows open. Summoning a thick fog meant to obscure their sight and grant me the upper hand, I hurled standing bodies into the air and slammed them against every corner. Through the haze, I saw Denny lying on the narrow wooden slab I remembered. Above him, the furnace—the black stripping fire. With a roar, I ripped the furnace from its place and hurled it across the hall, fire bursting into wild arcs.

He sighed, "The furnace is on a timed cycle. Once it's ignited, it won't open until the process is finished." Evelyn collapsed to the ground, her spirit broken. "Murderers. You're all murderers."

THE NEXT DAY Sunlight crept through the slitted windows, pale and reluctant, casting long shadows on the wooden floor. The hearth crackled softly in the corner, the low pop of embers the only sound in the room. Cassandra sat on the edge of the massive bed, a thick robe draped around her shoulders, her feet bare and pale against the cold floor. She hadn’t slept well. After her breakdown the night before, she had cried herself into an exhausted stupor. No dreams. No visions. Just the black silence of a mind too full to think.

Chapter Thirteen: Smoke and Memory The fire burned for hours. They watched from the ridge as the once-imposing NovaTherm compound was consumed by flame and fury. Eden sat on a rock, blood seeping from a shallow cut on her arm, her lungs still stinging from smoke. Roman stood nearby, his gaze fixed on the blackening sky. The night felt too quiet now—like the world was holding its breath. "That’s one node down,” Eden said, her voice hoarse. “How many more?”

The silence on the bridge was no longer the dormant, expectant quiet of a sleeping giant. It was the absolute, crushing stillness of a graveyard. The air was thick with the acrid stench of melted copper, scorched carbon, and the unmistakable, sickening scent of burnt flesh. Drifting amidst the floating debris of shattered viewports and molten slag, Elara held the broken shell of the man she loved.

energy in their marrow like a living fire that refused to be put out. I stood on the balcony of the Nexus-Ruin in the former Grid-City, watching the sunrise. Below, the obsidian streets were no longer empty. Groups of "Awakened" were huddling together, some shifting uncontrollably, others staring at their hands in a state of shock.

Chapter 4: Kitchen Fire The days had melted together into one long, feverish haze. Mornings started with stolen glances over breakfast, afternoons dissolved into quick, desperate fucks against walls or on the floor, nights bled into slow, grinding sessions that left them both wrecked and still wanting. No conversations about what this meant. No guilt trips. Just skin on skin, breath on breath, the constant throb of need that never quite eased.

(The Vane’s Mansion) The violent, lashing storm of the night had finally wept itself dry, leaving behind a sharp, cold autumn morning. As the morning sun rose over the manicured hedges of the Vane estate, its weak, golden light caught the lingering puddles on the driveway, turning the gravel paths into shimmering, fractured mirrors. But inside the mansion, there was no warmth to be found. The air was frozen, heavy with the quiet, electrical charge of a bomb waiting for its fuse to spark.
