The edges of the fissure were ragged, wet, and pulsing with a strange, bioluminescent exudate. The race began within forty-eight hours. The ISA, the CNSA, and every private aerospace conglomerate with a rocket and a dream turned their eyes upward. Everyone wanted to be the first to reach the chasm.
