Then she blinked once, as though acknowledging something unseen, and a thin curl of vapor left her mouth—frost breath, in summer heat.
“Stormborn,” Elias murmured. “The legends weren’t metaphors.”
Logan stepped forward again, eyes glowing.
“Elara,” he whispered. “She’s the calm between wars. The shield that outlives the sword.”
Link stood dumbstruck, holding both pups—Kael already snarling like a cub, Elara as still as ice and just as sharp.
“My gods,” he breathed. “They’re already wolves.”
Lilly was barely conscious when Link knelt beside her and laid the twins across her chest. She blinked up at him with glassy, golden eyes, her wolf still close to the surface.
