He then turned to face her, his dark chocolate eyes gazing over Alinta as he studied her with a benign smile, then asked, "May I ask, why is a fair lupa like you travelling alone to Mercurysburg?” Alinta looked at the man in surprise. "Lupa" is Latin for she-wolf, and "lupus" is Latin for a male wolf. This was a code werewolves or mythical creatures would use to refer to one another in the human realm without raising suspicion. What surprised her was that she usually sensed when a fellow werewolf was nearby, but this man didn’t smell like one at all. She also had never engaged with a human or any other sifter before, so she did not know how to distinguish between the different races.
