To that, all that Simon said was… nothing.
That night, I watched him standing at the bathroom doorway, motionless for what felt like hours. He stepped inside, lay in the empty bathtub, and curled up like a baby—or, rather, like someone already dead.
The wind howled outside, rustling the leaves. I hovered at the edge of the tub, looking down at him.
Even when thin and hollow, Simon was still impossibly handsome. His long eyelashes fluttered slightly in sleep, as if he were chasing some restless dream.
I wanted to reach out and touch his face, but my fingers passed through his cheek. Once again, I felt that gentle yet unyielding pull. I knew it was truly time to go.
