“Absolutely,” I replied, my voice firm and unwavering. “You’ll have to learn to love me first before I give you anything.” My words felt like armor, even though my heart raced with uncertainty. Was I convincing him, or myself?
His eyes narrowed as he studied me, his tone lowering. “And should marriage really be necessary for that?”
“Marriage is more than a piece of paper,” I explained, stepping closer, wanting him to understand. “It’s a vow, a promise we make to each other. It’s proof of commitment, loyalty. It shows that you’re not just playing games with me.”
