Luca Ercole Novels & Stories

he asked, leaning forward in anticipation. “That brings us to the second good news sir,” Carla said calmly. “It appears your ex-wife has been in Rome this whole time, hiding under the cover of a private and secretive art dealer called Elena Romano.” Luca's eyes widened in surprise. He had never heard that name before, even if he wasn't passionate about art, he knew quite a few dealers through his friends, and the name had never been mentioned. “Why haven't I heard the name before?” He asked.

"Enter." The door opened and closed with the quiet precision of a tomb sealing shut. Luca stepped into the pool of dim amber light. He was one of my oldest pieces on the board. He didn’t survive thirty years in the Cavalli organization by being a conversationalist; he survived by being a ghost who could kill with a whisper. “We have confirmation,” Luca said, his voice a low, gravelly hum. I finally turned. My gaze was sharp, cutting through the shadows. “Speak.”

I cleared my throat to announce my presence. He turned around and threw his hands up when he saw me. “There's my favorite girl! Come on, have a seat” My face remained impassive. Antonio DeLuca was a bald middle aged man with a powerful build who would never take no for an answer. “What do you want, Antonio?” He chuckled, his voice gruff. “Always straight to business. I like that” He pulled out a file and handed it to me. I opened it and took out a photograph.

Noah’s chest tightened “What are you doing here” Luca ignored the question, his gaze drifting around the apartment like he was taking inventory “You always kept things separate,” he continued, almost thoughtful “Club life here, school life there” A small pause “Guess that didn’t last” “Leave,” Elliott said Calm Sharp Final Luca looked at him then, really looked this time, amusement flickering in his eyes “You must be the professor” Silence Then a slow step forward “You know,” Luca added, voice dropping slightly, “he’s very popular where I come from”

Luca spoke again, his voice like a drawn blade, cold and deadly, "Elena has nothing to do with you anymore. From this moment on, you will address her as Madre Cobella." He scanned all the guests, his gaze finally settling back on Leone with absolute authority and a hint of contempt: "If you dare to offend my wife again, I assure you the name Donovitch will be wiped completely off the map of New York, and indeed the entire underground world. I mean what I say." Leone was stunned by the undisguised killing intent in Luca's words and the overwhelming gap in their power. His face turned deathly pale, his lips trembling, as if he wanted to say something more.

On the third night he stopped and pulled me against his chest. “I hate this,” he said into my hair. “I hate that you have to do this.” I held onto him tight. “I chose you four. I chose this life, so I will fight for it.” He kissed me as if it was his last kiss. Luca ran intelligence. He sat in the library basement surrounded by laptops, maps and coffee cups. His eyes stayed red from no sleep. Every time new scouts reported in he updated the big board on the wall. Dante trained the fighters. He screamed orders until his voice gave out.

Every step felt like walking on shattered glass. Luca appeared at the edge of the path, as if he had been waiting. He looked every bit the loyal second, crisp shirt, calm demeanor, but his eyes held that same calculated softness from their last private talk. “Signora,” he greeted, falling into step beside her. “A difficult night, I hear. The breach… it’s shaken everyone.” Elena glanced at him, suspicion coiling in her gut. “You seem to know a lot about what shakes me these days.”

Sometimes she has a hard time following them when they talk amongst themselves, but Matteo knows she always understands what is being said. The next people he meets are soldiers; some from Romeo's team, some from Vincenzo's. Matteo doesn't bother learning their names, but he recognizes one of them. He's the only one that looks closest to Matteo's age. His name is Luca, and Matteo remembers him from his early days growing up in the restaurant. He was always there. He's the son of the guy who got shot "Luca is Romeo's nephew. He is the newest member of our organization; he joined two years ago."

He dug through his memories, but he could not find that person. “Art Trading Corporation is not a recycling station and we’re not going to accept some riff-raff. I’m at a loss for words. “Send him away.” Just as the secretary was about to send that person away, Silvester stood up suddenly and said, “Wait, I think this person is useful to us, Brother!” “Huh? Why’d you say that?” “Brother, Luca is not your average person. He’s the leader of the Eagles Alliance, and the Hill family used to be a part of it. We later had conflicts with the Hill family so they were kicked out. And it’s for this reason that Thomas and Luca are feuding.”
