"Enter." The door opened and closed with the quiet precision of a tomb sealing shut. Luca stepped into the pool of dim amber light. He was one of my oldest pieces on the board. He didn’t survive thirty years in the Cavalli organization by being a conversationalist; he survived by being a ghost who could kill with a whisper. “We have confirmation,” Luca said, his voice a low, gravelly hum. I finally turned. My gaze was sharp, cutting through the shadows. “Speak.”

Luca leaned on the low stone wall, as if posing for a portrait: a dark sweater, open coat, missing tie, and green eyes glinting like sea glass held over a lantern. Umbra settled beside her, quietly sizing Luca up for burial. “You look awake,” she said. “You look like you didn’t sleep,” he countered. She tried not to show she was startled that he could tell. He didn’t push. He let the silence sit between them like a warm fog. “You heard about Founder’s Night,” he said. “I heard rumors.” “It’s worse than rumors. Old alliances. New contracts. They call it a gala to make it sound pretty, but it’s a feeding ground.” His gaze slid to her. “You’ll be the main attraction.”

Lorenzo whispered, his soft lips brushing against her forehead. "An omega as a Luna? How pathetic." "He could have had anyone, yet he chose her?" "Disgraceful." The whispers grew louder, the sneers and jeers became more pronounced. Though Lorenzo was fuming with anger, he managed to keep his cool until someone made a fatal mistake. I eye the desk and papers everywhere. “Sorry, I’m still shocked Luna just made the almighty Alpha blush but seriously what’s going on with your desk. Finally the time reached and we both went to our computers. We logged into the school portal and went for our final year results. I put in my code and waited for it to load. Luca's own did before mine, I knew through his scream of joy. “A fucking four point one CGPA" he said.
