Lucien purred, taking a slow step toward me.
His massive frame completely blocked out the harsh harbor wind, casting a warm shadow over me. He looked down at the heavy aluminum bat resting casually on my shoulder, then back up to my face, his icy eyes practically dancing with a mixture of intense curiosity and dark fascination.
"First a prophet, now a magician," he murmured, his voice dropping into that low, intimate register. He reached out, his thumb and forefinger gently catching the cool tip of the aluminum bat, tilting it slightly. "You keep popping things out of thin air, sweetheart, and I might actually start believing you can make the dead rise."
