Lucky's POV I stopped for a second and watched the trees ahead of me. I hadn’t given them much thought at first, but now, as they stood like one tall guardian after another around me, I was feeling a bit claustrophobic. The river had led me to this forest, but so far no people. Just my luck. Which was sort of ironic, since that was also my name. I smiled at my own joke and kept on going. Well, at least now, I had a direction. And I wasn’t going to die. It was late summer and the forest was rich in berries and nuts. The water was fresh and, if necessary, I could make a weapon of some kind and hunt a small animal. My biggest threat was the wildlife. The predators with sharper teeth than mine.

I quickly approached the doctor to inquire. "How is my wife, Doc? Our baby? Are they both safe?" I asked the doctor anxiously. "Don't worry, Mr. Mondragon. Both your wife and child are safe," the doctor replied to me with a smile. "It's a good thing you brought her to the hospital early, so nothing bad happened to your baby." I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard what the doctor said. I also secretly thanked God because He saved my wife and child. "Thank you very much, Doctor Chavez," I expressed my gratitude to him. We know each other because their hospital is one of the lucky hospitals that receive donations from the foundation my father established when he was still alive.

~~~~~ Los Angeles, California ~~~~~ PIH Health Hospital. "Ma'am please try to calm down, you need to calm down and talk with me." Doctor Fred mumbled standing up to hold the little woman before him, he was fed up with her rants and talks. She has been giving him enough headaches for the past hour, she was here for a test but the system has some problems so she had to wait thirty minutes. Remona stopped her ranting and glared at the doctor holding her hand, "if you don't want your hands broken, then let go." She muttered her dark black eyes glaring at him.

I'm a good luck charm to my wife by nature. After marrying me, Heather Seymour, who's crippled because of a car crash, miraculously stands up on her own and gets to ditch the wheelchair. The way I caught myself humming songs from his playlist. The way I reached for my phone to text him about something funny before remembering I couldn’t. One night, I found the old notebook from my early days with him. I flipped through the pages, reading my clinical notes mixed with the little personal observations I’d started writing when I realized I was falling. Patient shows remarkable resilience despite pain. Stubborn but gentle underneath. His laugh is rare but beautiful. I think I’m in trouble. I closed the notebook and cried until I couldn’t breathe.

I increased the pressure, causing the knife to cut into Regina's skin and drops of blood to bead. Regina didn't look the least bit flustered. Instead, she met me with an innocent expression. "What are you talking about? I don't understand. What does your bad luck have to do with me? I was born lucky. Of course, I'm luckier than normal people!" I let out a cold laugh, my mind racing. "Let me think. When did you start to get lucky? Oh, right after I had that kidney surgery…"

She rolled her eyes at me, then shouted to the patients waiting inside and outside the clinic, "Everyone, come look! Dr. Evan Miller is overcharging us! He's scamming regular people like us!" As soon as she finished, everyone's eyes turned to me, filled with scrutiny and suspicion. Thankfully, my neighbor, little Daisy Turman, pushed through the crowd, her cheeks puffed out in anger as she glared at Faye. "Faye, you're lying! Dr. Miller is a good person! Last time I had a fever, Dr. Miller treated me and even gave me candy! He's so kind!" A wave of warmth washed over me, and I smiled at Daisy.

He ignored her, turning his attention to me. I pulled against my restraints, panic surging through my exhausted body. The straps held firm. I was a sitting duck. Kazi walked toward me. The whirrr-clank of his suit was terrifyingly loud. He stopped inches from my face, the smell of oil and old blood rolling off him. He looked at me with a mixture of disgust and pity. "Patient Zero," Kazi said, his voice low. "The boy who wouldn't die." "Please," I rasped, my throat raw. "I didn't do anything."

“Her name is Amora Cassidy Shane.” The staff member frowned. “Amora Cassidy Shane? When was this patient treated?” “Two years ago,” Lucy replied confidently. The woman looked at Lucy again, this time longer. “What business do you have seeking a patient’s information?” Lucy quickly crafted an excuse. “I… am a member of her family. Amora disappeared after being treated here. I just want to know if there was any transfer.” She softened her voice as much as possible, though it was clearly nothing but a fabricated story.

She is exhausted and I look at them appreciating my SECOND CHANCE in life. THE END
