I pulled on the robe with shaking hands and made my way down the long hallway toward his office, the folder clutched tight against my chest like evidence in a trial I wasn’t ready for. The office door stood open. Damian was already there, standing behind his desk in a crisp black shirt with the sleeves rolled to his elbows. He looked up the instant I stepped inside, gray eyes fixed on me. I didn’t sit. I didn’t greet him. I just held up the folder and said the only thing burning in my throat. “You and Cassian… you’re father and son.” Damian didn’t flinch. He simply closed the laptop in front of him and met my gaze head-on.

A wild urge filled my mind, pestering me to accept my fate and move on just as I had always done, but I didn't accept the urge as soon as it came. Nonetheless, I tried to view the scenario from his point of view. If my father had killed his own parents, would I be brave enough to say it to his face? Would he believe that I was truly innocent of the crime? What amount of courage could I summon that would be enough to tell my partner that my family made him an orphan?

Seeing the colors rise in his face and the vein on his forehead begin to throb violently, I feel Liza’s hand squeeze mine a bit before she lets go and approaches her father. “Let them talk, daddy.” She comments, hugging him and stopping his impulse to shout. “First, I’d like to introduce you to my parents, Lilibeth and Massimo Carluccio.” They get up from their seats and extend their hands to greet Liza’s father, though I notice my mother still looks at him with a frown. “And this is Stefano Belucci, my father-in-law.” “Good evening, Mr. Belucci!” They both greet him.

“So that’s it? All this coldness is because of my mother?” “She betrayed me, Lily. And not just me. She betrayed the mafia. The Romano name. She ran away with you when you were just a baby. She left me... to protect you. From me.” I swallowed hard. “So she was right, then?” Luigi finally looked at me with something I hadn’t seen before. Pain. Regret. But there was no room for pity. “Please,” I said, taking his hand. “If you’re my father, if you feel anything at all, tell me—who am I?”

“If you allow me, I must withdraw, ma’am.” He left the room and took all the light with him. He was the complete opposite of Rayan; there was respect in him, loyalty, dignity, honor… all the traits of a true Arie. Something that reminded me of Howard, Lyun’s father. Howard was my father’s Arie captain, so naturally Lyun grew up as my best friend. The Arie were not forbidden from having children and when Lyun’s mother died in childbirth, my father took her in as his niece and she stayed in the main house of the pack with us.

His dark, straight eyebrows draw together. "Who the fuck is Xavier Del Rio?" The thin red folder that was once gripped tightly in Liam's hand was slammed down on the desk. He watched impatiently as his father's hand rubbed his chin before they came together, folding in front of him. Liam observed his father's expression as he sat rigid. He was wringing with sweat and agitation. "Father." He called again. "As I've told you before, boy." Yusuf hummed, "He is our enemy."

“So it’s because Is that why I couldn't get a job at Evergreen? Didn’t your father leave me?” “Yeah,” Liam grumbled, actually looking upset about it. “He was being an idiot.” I tried to keep my breathing calm, even though my chest felt tighter and tighter by the minute. “So when you told me that your father was the leader of the city… what you really meant was that he was the leader of… of a vampire clan?” Liam sat on the edge of the bed next to me. “Yes,” he said slowly. “Our father may or may not be one of the most powerful vampires in the world.”

It won’t be nice if he did. I suddenly remembered that father had been a shell of himself when his mafia work had hit the fan. He was rude, obnoxious, and mean to everyone. I hoped that wouldn’t be the case now. I hadn’t been able to control myself, and hit the mafia leader. I couldn’t help it anymore, I leaned back into the window to figure out what was going on. Zayn was driving out of the lot, and the father looked at me. It was too late to hide. My old man waved at me with a smile on his face. He was the definition of chill. “What did you tell him, Zayn?” I asked the empty room.

Ophelia Brushing some stray curls back from his face he grabbed his drink and brought it to his lips. The way he moved was smooth and sensuous, as if he’d had plenty of practice mastering his reactions. “Isn’t it obvious? Our fathers want us to work together.” My eyebrows jumped. What on earth did my father have to do with Lunar Isles military commander? How did they know one another? Clearly my father must have inspired some kind of loyalty for them to go against Ryker.

"You're one lucky son of a bitch, do you know that?" I turn my head slowly, ignoring the painful flare running through my body. As soon as my eyes land on him, I groan again. He sat in the hospital chair next to me, leaning backwards with one foot rested on the other leg. He doesn't look happy. The eyes of Mr. Lambardi, a mafia gang leader and my only father.
