The tires spat water in a spray behind them as they tore down the dock, the storm hammering the windows like fists.
Inside, the smell of blood filled the cabin, hot and metallic, mixing with sweat, gunpowder, and the sharp tang of adrenaline that seemed to ooze from their skin. Luca groaned weakly, his head rolling against Noa’s shoulder, lips pale and cracked.
“You okay?” Noa asked him, voice tight, almost panicked, his hands pressing down on the wound at Luca’s side. His hoodie was soaked in seconds, blood soaking through.
Luca tried to answer but only managed a cough, blood spitting from his mouth, hitting the floor mat in dark splashes. The sound rattled deep, too deep.
