I ignored it, not wanting to break whatever fragile, tentative thing was finally starting to knit itself back together between us.
It buzzed again. And again.
"It's Maya," I said, pulling it out.
"Answer it."
I did.
"Amara." Maya's voice was tight, controlled — the voice of someone delivering news they didn't want to say out loud. "Shadow Ridge moved early. They're at the border. Marcus is calling everyone."
The world tilted sideways. Damon was already on his feet, already reaching for his shirt, already shifting into something harder, older, more certain, the Alpha he'd been fighting to become standing up inside him all at once.
