CHAPTER 1: Lyra's POV “Drink up, everyone! Tonight, we toast to three years of absolute peace under our Alphas!” A loud cheer echoed through the massive courtyard as Beta Thomas raised his wooden mug high. The annual Alpha Gathering was finally here, and the air was thick with the scent of roasted meat, heavy smoke, and the sharp, pine-and-earth aromas of hundreds of visiting wolves. Massive bonfires roared against the dark night sky, throwing orange light across the faces of allied Alphas, warriors, and elders who had traveled from all over the territory to renew their pacts.

Omegas- well, you already know about me and my housemates. Chris, Max, Luthor and Lana are all gammas- there are exactly fifteen here in the yard currently- there are more, but they are quite possibly all in their own houses by now after their hard day of checking the perimeter of our territory. These four that remained here stayed back to do something else.

All the lower phantoms that were reached by the black flame melted, eliciting a collective of cheering roars. This scene made the three alphas to freeze from their spots. ‘A black flame?’ A lone sweat fell from Alpha Liam’s nape as fear for his men gnawed at him. ‘We need Talia and the hybrid luna now more than ever to win this.’

I promise you.” I smiled. “Take everything,” I said. I turned and walked away. “You think this ends here?” Lumian roared behind me. “You think you can walk into my home and tear my pack apart” His voice cracked through the courtyard. “I am the Alpha of Blackthorn”, he shouted. “You hear me, I will hunt every single one of you down”

“Alert me if anything changes.” As I descended the stairs leading to my lab, I knew I didn't have much time. Lumina, based on what my informants told me, works by destabilising the normal biology of the body. And it wasn't something that could be countered easily. Lira's case was worse. She had barely taken her full form as a gamma. I didn't even know where to start. What rank would she wake up to? My hands shook as I scanned the labels, pulling bottles closer to inspect them. I hadn't admitted it since they arrived, but Lumina scared me. It had the power to potentially end our kind. And worse, in the hands of my brother, we were doomed.

I kept searching my mind to try to remember if I had told anyone about me, but I couldn’t recall such a time. "Don’t be afraid, Luna. My name is Naomi. Your mate is my Alpha. He put you on this flight so that I could watch over you. Please don’t hesitate to tell me if you need anything and I will provide it for you." She responded with much enthusiasm, a complete difference from my mood. "Meanwhile, enjoy this dish of smoked salmon with cream cheese and caviar, salami with olives, and sun-dried tomatoes." She said, pointing to the individual dish as she listed their names.

The sun had not fully risen when Liam and I stood at the edge of the eastern forest, the morning air still wrapped in damp mist among the old pine trees. I had not slept all night. Even though the serum had saved Lina and two other children, something inside me felt wrong. Their eyes. The glances that for a moment reflected a silvery color like cold metal. That was not a sign of full recovery. That was a sign of change. Liam stood beside me, still wearing black tactical gear with the Alpha Darkmane emblem on his left shoulder. He stared straight ahead, his eyes narrowed as if trying to peer through the mist.

Kathleen looked at the guards and ordered. But the guards did not move from their places in fear. When they did not move, Kathleen took the oil bottle from Stella's hand and threw it at Bella. Bella was lying on the ground in pain and groaning. As soon as the oil bottle fell on her, Kathleen took out a lighter from her pocket and lit it. In an instant, the fire lit up heavily. Bella's wolf was howling in unbearable pain, looking at the sky. The clouds in the sky turned black.

Luke won’t know I’m gone if he comes looking for me. I lifted my head slightly, my voice low, like I was speaking to her even if she wasn’t there. "Everything will come back... everything will be the same again, Corinne... I promise, we will return." A few minutes passed. Then Lumi appeared in front of me. A wide smile spread across her lips, her eyes shining with victory. She stepped closer and said, "I have new information for you, Alpha Glacier." I looked at her, steady, focused. "Then tell me, Lumi... what do you have?"
