She cranked up the music on her tiny Bluetooth speaker and some ridiculous pop playlist began playing, Mala sang off-key while I sat there, dizzy with the feeling that my life had just cracked open in a good way for once.
Every bite of food tasted brighter, every laughter came easier, even the traffic noise outside, which had annoyed me every day since I moved in, sounded like part of the celebration, like the city was alive and I was alive with it.
