I gripped the fabric of my white ceremonial dress, the silk cool against my sweaty palms. I headed toward the back of the packhouse, away from the prying eyes of the elders. Kael had sent a note earlier. Meet me in the private den, it said. Five minutes before the moon hits its peak. My feet felt light. I was Lyra, the girl who had everything. The daughter of a high ranking family. The destined mate of the future King. I pushed open the heavy oak door of the den. It didn't creak. It slid open like it was waiting for me.

"She's the Moon Goddess, you can't blame me for being a little nervous. "She goes by Millicent, her given name, now," Rylan reminds me. This is it. This is when I confront the Moon Goddess, or Millicent, rather, about the deal I shoved her into without talking to her about it first. Sinful seemed adamant that the deal goes through, especially on Millicent's side, which has me suspicious, but it's not my business to get myself into. Instead, I plan to tell her what she needs to do, why, and the sacrifice that I had to make, along with Kace and Rylan, to then leave before she can get mad.

He openly glared at me but Lyra gave me a full blown smile that still didn't reach her eyes. “Oh you must be the one filling in my position in my absence.” Lyra brought out her hand. “I'm Lyra. It's nice to meet my soon to be predecessor.” Behind the sweet tiny voice was a venomous snake. Lyra was no puppet. She was well in this with Elder Rhaegar. I accepted her hand, shaking it earnestly with a smile. “It's nice to meet my famous wannabe, even going as far as wanting my husband. I love a hardworking fan.”

The sound of the door opening and closing. “Oh god, what have I done?” Lyra was the daughter of the beta of Dark moon pack, also the next in line beta of the future alphas. She has been training with Silas, Ezra and Zayn for years now. She started staying with them permanently after she turned eleven and her father had tried to drown her. Accusing her of being the reason for his mate's death. From that day forward, the triplets became her everything. Her sparring partners. Her confidants. Her family in all but blood.

"I know you don't understand, but this is what I have to do. I'm sorry." Leah turned and ran out of the cafe. She could hear Ray running after her, calling her name. She didn't stop running, or wait to reach the launch pad, before shifting into her dragon. She glanced back once to see Ray staring after her. He didn't look happy, but there was nothing she could do about that. She had a clan to protect; they needed her.

But the sound of footsteps behind me told me peace wasn’t mine to have today. “Kael,” a voice sang. I knew it before I turned. Smooth, polished, with the edge of practiced sweetness. Lyra. I turned, and there she was, sweeping across the clearing like she owned it. Her gown shimmered in the sunlight, pale gold that clung to her frame, her dark hair braided with jewels that caught the light with every step. She wasn’t dressed for the dirt of a training ground—she was dressed to be seen, to remind everyone exactly who she was.

“What are you doing?” Lyra did not respond. Instead, she locked in a scent and started following it frantically, moving in the opposite direction of the palace. After a few more attempts to reach her, Rae realised that Lyra was unresponsive. She was agitated and her mind seemed to be set on one thing–finding prey. Feeling that she was out of control, Rae tried to reach out for Julian’s wolf. There was nobody else she could reach, and she had never sensed any hostility from him, so he was likely to help.
