YOU EXISTS ONLY AS A TOOL Mabel's POV Here comes the day of my marriage. I get ready with the help of my best Rose and my maids. I wore a white gown my father gave me as a gift and I combed my hair into a bun. I had a custom ring which William's mother, Stella, bought for me. It was made of pure gold, Swarovski crystals covered the whole surface of the ring, and in every center was a large diamond which cost more than my father's house.

There was laughter, bad dancing, and the promise of a peaceful weekend. Until Mabel arrived. The elevator doors opened like the gates of trouble, and out stepped Mabel du Prée: head wrapped in black silk, pearls that could deflect bullets, and a smile that knew something the rest of the room didn’t. “Oh, Lord,” Marvella muttered under her breath. “Here come the national anthem of bad timing.” Ruth leaned toward Abigail. “That’s the aunt?” “The one who thinks the devil just misunderstood,” Abigail whispered. Mabel’s heels clicked across the marble like punctuation marks. “Ladies! Don’t stop on my account. I just came to bring a little family flavor to the festivities.”

Next was Aishat, her hair tied in two buns, holding a flower crown. Then Ella, with her silver dress and chubby cheeks. When we got to Liora, I stopped. Her picture was beautiful. She was wearing a purple dress, Mabel got for her…, her smile so full of light it almost made me tear up. I stared at it quietly. For a second, I forgot everything, the fear, the tension, and just felt proud. “She looks just like you,” Mabel said softly. I didn’t answer. My throat felt tight.

When they got to the shopping mall, Armstrong selected a wine-colored, sexy gown for Mabel and she thanked him before trying it on. While she was trying it on, she saw the price and was shocked. She quickly came out of the changing room and said, "Armstrong, have you seen the price of this dress? Even if I sold my fish for a year, I still would not be able to make enough to pay for this. I can't wear this, it is too expensive."

I replied, yelling also. "You leave me no choice then!!" He said as he tried to bring out his phone. "What's all these noise about , can't someone get any peace and quiet here? " I heard Mabel ask and we both turned immediately to see her standing at the entrance. She was putting on a short simple V-neck gown that stopped just right on her thighs on a white slippers. Her hair was packed up in a tight ponytail and boy ! Can I ever get over seeing her this way?!

I blushed and whispered, "Ok." Mabel came along with two other ladies. "Excuse us, Jasper. We have to take her now." she put her hands around my arm dragging me with her. Mabel gave me a blue dress. It stopped at my knee. The hem was made with shiny stones, and the texture felt like soft cashmere on my skin. She made me walk back to Jasper with the dress on. "Nice!" Jasper beamed, looking excited. Which meant he liked it. I went back with Mabel again and wore the next dress.

Mabel, a short girl who had been assigned to be my maid informed me 2 hours later. I slowly sat up on the bed, crossing my legs beneath me. "Can you tell me what is wrong with this outfit?" I asked as I gestured to the clothes I was wearing. She looked at the outfit I had with her eyes gleaming with disapproval. "I think it’s a bit bland. You need something to make your mate swoon when he looks at you. I feel that it would be nice to wear something like a cream gown that would show those cheekbones of yours."

“I don’t know, Desiree. It’s a wedding dress fitting, not a crime scene.” But even as she says it, I can tell she’s just as curious as I am. Mabel reappears a few minutes later in a stunning white gown, her face glowing with excitement as the women around her gasp and applaud. The mood in the room shifts to admiration and awe, everyone focused on the bride-to-be. I cross my arms, watching the stranger closely. He looks at Mabel like she’s more than just a bride—like she’s his. And that’s when it clicks.
