Mom has fashion magazines spread across the living room coffee table like evidence in a trial. Jenny sits cross-legged on the rug beside her, eyes shining with the kind of excitement only a fourteen-year-old can muster over someone else's wardrobe. She pried the paper and straightened it, her black eyes roaming over the neatly-typed words on the page, the skin of her forehead pressed together in concentration. “Oh. My. God. This is bad news.”

He didn’t even make it to the bedroom. I notice the magazine in his lap, half-closed. I reach down to pick it up so it doesn’t fall. But when I glance at the cover, my heart stutters. Logan and Madeline are on the cover of the magazine. Smiling. Standing a little too close. I bite my lower lip. It’s probably just PR. She’s always around him now, with her perfect smile and her camera-ready arms. I place the magazine down gently. Then I walk out.

Donning the nose mask over my face, I strolled behind Aiden as he clicked the bathroom door open and walked in.
