Maddox. And how little time I have left before everything comes crashing down.

" I got up to grab my stuff, a part of me was terrified, and a part of me needed a distraction. We were heading to Castle City. Link was driving, Axel was riding shotgun, and I was in the back with Damon and Maddox. Maddox, the Beta to Aloha Killian of the Death Moon pack. Only the most ruthless and fierce pack in North America. No big deal. Link and Axel were chatting away, and Damon and Maddox said nothing. I believe it was because they were plotting my death. My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I reached for it. Victoria's name accross the screen; both Maddox and Damon looked at me. I visibly gulped. Do I open it with them watching? Do I put it in my pocket, and they think I am ignoring her

“I’d like to run and see if I can catch the pretty girl with the precision of a level-headed surgeon.” Noah. “Stay away from my Noah,” I snap. “She’s going to break your heart, and you know I like you, Maddox, but you wouldn’t survive her.” Maddox backs away, smiling widely. “Hear that? She likes me.” He tells Kingston, making sure he is watching before he winks at me. “Later, Ellie bear.” He says, dashing out the day. I can’t help but laugh, Maddox and Damien are the same person when it comes to antagonising Kingston, D might be the best at it, but Maddox is right there in second place.

But what he said sounded real. As the wind picked up around them, Valerian gave a parting nod. “Be careful, Alexandro. This world is changing. The rules we’ve known no longer hold.” With that, he turned and walked away, his crimson robe billowing behind him. Alexandro stood in silence long after Valerian left. A new name. A new threat. Maeron. He repeated the name in his mind like a curse. If that was who had Serena… he’d burn every corner of the world to find him.

He gives me a smile and grabs my hand. (What’s your name mate?) he asks curiously. (I’m Mila Gibson and you?) I ask. (That’s a beautiful name. I’m Adam Thompson.) He replies. (What pack are you from Adam?) I ask innocently. (I’m the future beta of the Crescent Moon Pack.) He says proudly. I pull my hand away from him slowly, and he looks at me confused. (Is something wrong?) He asks confused. (I’m sorry, but I have plans and this is not part of them.) I whisper.

And my body proved me a liar. Maddox walked in with two deputies and a chain around his waist like the system needed to remind everyone that no amount of money or power makes you immune to metal. He wore the same suit he’d worn for surrender—dark, clean lines, no tie, jaw set. His eyes found mine immediately. Not soft. Not pleading. Just… locked. A pull hit my chest so hard I had to inhale through it slowly or risk making a sound in open court like a ridiculous woman who couldn’t hold her professional mask.

From outside, I could hear Katy’s laughter and the booming sound of Aiden’s voice. I pushed the automatic door opener and stepped outside, stopping in shock at the sight before me. “What the hell are you wearing?” Maddox grinned, striking a pose. “Old-fashioned golfing attire.” I shook my head. He wore an argyle vest overtop a collared white shirt. The shirt was tucked into golf knickers—pants that ended at the knee. Covering his calves were a pair of jaunty matching argyle socks. There were fringes on his shoes. A cap on his head.

Ruby watches us with a smile on her face, Ruby’s point of view. I look over at Maddox as he sits on the floor with Ysabel; he makes my heart melt. He's taken this little girl into his heart, even when it was never his responsibility. I have never met a man as caring as Maddox, yeah he pretends to be this big scary guy, and I have seen that side of him; I think that’s the side of him you would call Maddog, and I understand why the Swift family gave him that nickname, but on the inside, he's Maddox the gentle and caring guy with a heart of gold. It's this Maddox I am deeply in love with.

He didn’t say anything right away. He looked sad. “Is there anything else you want to say?” Then, Dillon’s brightly colored hat caught his eye. He put his arms across his chest and looked at him while noticing the new thing on his head. “Nice bonnet.” “Thank you, Alpha.” “She helped you make it.” Drake didn’t have to ask whom he was talking about, and Dillon knew whom he meant. He said, “Y-Yes. It was a thank-you gift, and that’s all.”
