Director Holt moves to stand beside them. “Gabriel Maddox, Instructor of Combat and Tactical Strategy.” Instructor Maddox is the massive guy from last night’s dinner. Broad shoulders, short black hair, a neatly trimmed beard streaked with silver. His piercing dark brown eyes sweep the room. His skin is sun-weathered and tan. He looks like he’s made of stone and battlefield grit, and utterly terrifying 'Let’s stay on his good side.'

Hutton's POV Today was a sad one for me. I was just so angry after what I found out today in school. It was a painful one, and it hurt more to know clearly that there was just nothing I could do. Xander is just a devil reincarnated, a cold-hearted and ruthless boy who I wish I could kill. I badly wish I could slit his throat and hang him in the middle of the market. I hate him with all my heart and soul, but then it would only be in my heart. The hatred would be there while I watched him do whatever he liked with anyone he wanted to do with.

He squinted in the sunlight, the figure was far too tall to be Cara. Feigning slight disappointment he crouched down to pet the dog. “Archer?” The voice came from the tall, model-like figure. Archer stood up, forcing a polite smile to his face. “Or should I say, Zach Maddox? Which do you prefer?” Her face tilted sideways, mocking him. Archer’s smile dropped as he felt the sarcasm stab at him. “Sorry do I know you?” He asked confusion wavered through his voice.

“Hatchett, I wanted to thank you for your help today. You and all the Steel Lycans. We owe you one.” “You’ll have to mention that to Torque. He’s around here somewhere,” Hatchett said. “Do you have any word on Shiro or Maddox?” Ciara asked. Hatchett’s brow furrowed. “Who’s Maddox?” Hatchett gestured at one of his pack mates to continue on without him. Ciara shot me a confused look before looking back at Hatchett. “He’s the shadow investor who works with Shiro.” “Never heard of him,” Hatchett said, practically dismissing Ciara.

“Don’t be scared, Camille.” “Why are you back here?” After hesitating for a few seconds, he said, “I came to see you.” “Why?” “Because. . .” For such a big muscular man, he looked out of place and nervous. It was adorable and creepy at the same time. He cleared his throat. “Again, I’m sorry. My name is Maddox by the way.” “O-kay.” “Are you hungry?” “No. At the diner, I eat a whole lot throughout the day.”

I snap, "do you know how difficult it is for an orphan girl to get someone to care for her?" "You are not an orphan, and you are not alone", he tries to tell me with the greatest kindness that his little patience allows. "Richard has always been there for me, he has given me a home, food, what I have needed, he has even taken me to know the sea," I continue to ignore what he tells me, “Very few caregivers worry that their children know the sea." "Maddox ...!" He raises his voice, but when he sees my ah-look, he continues, "his name is not Richard, his real name is Maddox, and he is a traitor."
