she said, chuckling, her laughter echoing through the room. Maggie had gone to look for Leah in her room but didn't find her there, so she went to Jeremy's room to see if Leah was there. She heard their voices and leaned on the door, eavesdropping on their conversation. She was having goosebumps from hearing them play and giggle like that.

, I said busting out in tears because I didn't understand the present situation I was in. I have a stressful day at work and I come back to see my house empty. "Oh dear, I really don't know what you are talking about", Mama Maggie said. I could see the waves in her forehead as they squeezed, her cheeks sag more than usual in pity. Mama Maggie is an old gray haired lady in her late 60s. Her back is slightly hunched due to old age, and she also has this brown long stick that aids in her walk and to scold her grand children when they come to visit. Her walking pace is usually slow and only the patient once can wait on her. She looks much younger from afar until she is at arms length.

she explained, leading us into the house. It looked nothing like I expected it to. In my mind it was immaculate and filled with expensive trinkets, but it was not. The walls were adorned with certificates with Maggie’s name on – from swimming to horse riding, pictures of her and Jack and family photos. My eyes flicked from one image to another, drinking them in. “You were a really cute kid,” I murmured as we passed a photo of Maggie with her hair in pigtails, grinning at the camera with a tooth missing.

“O so you’re funny, not just beautiful. Good to know.” The next day Maggie picked me up from my house. It was Saturday and we usually watched movies at her house. My dad was not doing great since losing my mom, but he was doing his best. However, he didn’t like a lot of noise in the house and when the three of us got together, we were pretty loud. So we usually met at Maggie’s house or Rishi’s. “What about if we pick up Rishi and go shopping instead?” I asked. “Why? What do you need?” Maggie asked.

she greeted warmly. "Hey," I replied, forcing a weary smile onto my face as the absolute exhaustion of the past few hours threatened to pull my posture down. Maggie stepped gracefully to the side, widening the gap to allow me entry. I crossed the threshold into the expansive living room and pulled the heavy door shut behind us with a quiet click. "Liam is in your room," Maggie said, adjusting the strap of her bag as she spoke. "I've fed him three times today."
