Morgana explained with a sad smile on her face. I wondered why she looked sad despite the smile. Her smile didn't reach her eyes. "Who did this?" Sage asked with squinted eyes. "Cause I'm sure this isn't a thing back at the kingdom. This is related to black magic." He frowned. "Yeah, it isn't a thing in our world since it's a spell." Morgana shrugged. "But someone went extra miles to protect the people." "That must be Mila." Sage said. "She never grows up. The risk is huge." He complained.

I glare up at him, daring to challenge his hungry eyes even if it's one against five. "You won't touch anything." I hold his gaze, irritated that I have to crane my neck to see his face. Being short is a damn curse. He chuckles and nods at his friends, who appear behind him with scary-looking smiles aimed at me. "That's where you are wrong, kitten," The guy with the shades says, smiling wickedly. His lips are cruel. "We are five against one, and last time I checked, you aren't good at using your magic against werewolves—I saw alpha Blake repel your magic. Now, we aren't as strong as an alpha, but we are still five people."

Cassius offered me his hand and I took it, letting him help me to my feet. Taking a moment to compose myself, I ran my hand through my hair and scrubbed my face before turning towards the members of my pack. Everyone watched me wearily; I could feel that their morale was breaking. Especially Sage and Arlo. They looked miserable as they stared at their feet with tightly clenched fists. A twinge of regret stirred in my stomach. When I thought about how she had just disappeared into thin air, I remembered Selene's magic. I never thought she would have used it against them like that.

They stood looking into each other’s eyes, frozen to the spot, then they were kissing. “Oh, shit! You didn’t see that one coming, did ya, Superstar,” Jessica said loudly, and I literally saw Kiran go pale as he watched them. Levi was watching Kiran, and he took half a step forward in William’s direction. I kept a close eye on them. Levi was ready to intervene if Kiran did anything, and it would be interesting as hell to see. The two of them fighting? It would be an epic fight, because Kiran couldn’t use magic against Levi, it didn’t affect him at all. I looked at Gunnar, and I knew he was hurting. The outer doors — heavy iron plated with oak — were cracked inward, smoking from whatever had slammed into them. “Wardens don’t use explosives,” Carter muttered. “Then who does?” Killian asked. Carter’s smile was grim. “People who aren’t afraid to break the rules.” The doors gave way with a splintering groan, and figures poured in — half Warden, half mercenary. The Wardens were cold and precise, their mirrored masks unreadable. The mercs were loud, brutal, hacking their way forward with cleavers and hooked blades. Killian’s magic surged to his hands without thought, shadows boiling up from the floor and coiling into serrated tendrils. He lashed out, slicing through the nearest merc’s weapon

She pointed at her screen with a pencil where a bold ABSENT had been placed beside his name on the waiting list. "I'm sorry but there are no more flights going to Alaska today, sir? You will have to return in a week's time or so. Thank you for choosing Silver Lining."

Mister suddenly realized that she had secretly been distracting him while sending out a beacon of bright green light over their location, and leading everyone else straight to them. "You bitch! I should have known that you wouldn't come alone!" He shouted as he shifted and lunged for her at the same time. Lucky for the queen, she saw it coming in enough time to get out of the way. Mister landed hard on all fours just inside of the open doorway. He gasped really hard when he knocked the wind out of himself by brutally slamming his ribs against the corner of a table that was sitting just inside the shed entrance to the left of where he stopped.

Liam asked, to my left. “Hit them hard, all of us at once with the biggest blast we can muster, and knock as many of them out as possible,” I replied, hoping that we could get our first strike in before the other side even had a chance to know what hit them. I saw a bunch of nods all around me and knew that my teammates understood. “I’ll count to three,” I told them. “One, two, three!” On three, all of us sent out a huge wave of power aimed at the advancing line of mages. It was so powerful, many of the trees in front of us lost their leaves, which was awful, but at least they would grow back.
