I was much of an outdoorsy person myself, but my grandparents own a ranch and as kids, the Twins and I went there a lot.
“Everything’s fine, Mama,” I assured her, pulling back to look at her face. “The cabin is completely safe. It’s got proper walls, electricity, running water--all those modern conveniences.”
“But the bears, Louisa.”
“Are more afraid of us than we are of them,” I finished, repeating what Baba had told me a dozen times.
A car horn blared outside and we looked up.
Mama’s expression shifted from worried to knowing“That would be Silas, I presume?”
