I laugh at the idea of him sitting in here reading a manga. I turn away from the shelf and run right into Jordyn. I grab my chest as my breathing accelerates, "you startled me." Jordyn laughs, "I'm sorry for scaring you. Planning to read any books?" I think on that for a moment. "Maybe," I say. I loved reading. It was one of the many escapes from my harsh reality. He surprises me by echoing my thoughts. "I used to read a lot when I was a child. It helped me escape the burden of youth. Now I read to relax and unwind. It helps distract me from my work. That and..." he trails off as he runs his fingertips inside my thigh.

I say handing the novel back to him. "Don't you wanna finish this novel?" He asks. "I don't really read. What I read are small comics and mangas, cause I don't have the patience to finish novels. I better like watching movies," I say. "Oh.." he nods, he doesn't look impressed. Anyway, I ignore it and get up from the grass. He stretches a hand to me. I sigh and take it, pulling him up. "It was cool how you pulled me up yesterday in the ground," he mumbles, making me feel a tingling sensation in my stomach.

Aiden eagerly shared this with his grandparents. "One Piece?" Shantelle asked with a brow raised. "Is that a book?" Everyone was at the dining table, having a feast. He chuckled and suggested, "But maybe we can read a shorter story for bed, Aiden?" "Um. Okay, okay," Aiden said, and by the look on his face, he was searching through his brain. Eventually, he suggested, "I like Greek Mythology."

He bounded over to them, completely oblivious to the awkwardness saturating the air. I turned away, moving deeper into the store. Away from the stares. Away from the questions I could feel hanging in the air. "Mom, look at this!" Amber appeared at my side, holding up a manga volume with a triumphant grin. "It's the one I've been wanting forever! The one where…" He launched into an animated explanation about plot points and character development that I barely understood. But I nodded along anyway, grateful for the distraction. "That sounds exciting," I said, keeping my voice steady even though my chest felt tight.

"Really? Well, I think you should take the mangas to your room." "Jayden wouldn't let me," she groaned, rolling her eyes. "He told me to read it here because he doesn't trust me with his precious mangas." I jumped in, improvising a lie. "Yeah, she actually misplaced two of my mangas and poured hot coffee on one. I'm starting to think she's doing it on purpose." Liz chuckled, seemingly buying the excuse. "Okay, understood. Read that manga quickly and go back to your room. I'll come check up on you later."
