--- Chapter 19: The Memory of Fire The fire began with a whisper. A single spark in the server room—silent, almost reverent—before the flames unfurled across steel and glass, licking their way through the laboratory like a reckoning. The chemicals hissed as they caught, feeding the blaze with everything that had been hidden. Smoke rose in slow spirals, curling through the air like it had come to collect what the past was too cowardly to keep. Isla didn’t move.

The ground around Hannah and Garin’s home broke apart and collapsed into the earth. Dark smoke and wildfire roared out of the hole and from its depths crawled out Kari and when he got out, the hole filled back up and left no sign that there was ever a hole in the first place.

As the little bell on top of the door rang out a sweet tune, both Lani and Blake twisted around expecting another package but were instead faced with Jax' angered face. "Jax? What's wrong?" Lani asked. "The feds, they're here." "What?" Blake said with his face etched in confusion, "What'd they want now?" "They're here to snoop around, they know about the fire and they want to know what happened," Jax spoke in a bored tone. "What? The fire that happened nearly a month ago? I call bullshit," Blake laughed as he placed more paint in Lani's hair. She giggled shortly before returning her attention back to Jax, "He's right, there's nothing to investigate," Lani added.

(Cullen’s POV) The forest was burning and people were running helter skelter. The flames crawled over trees, licking the bark of trees and bone alike, turning everything into glowing ruins. Smoke thickened the air, choking the stars, painting the night sky with red and black. The howls of dying wolves echoed through the valley — long, raw, broken. Cullen Blackthorne walked through it all with slow, steady steps commanding respect and power. His boots crunched over ash and fallen bodies. His eyes were cold, sharp, but the fire reflected in them made him look almost inhuman. He didn’t speak. He didn’t need to. His warriors knew what to do.

They went rolling down the mountain slope and the road was cleared. I removed the barricade and announced that the path was clear. I watched contentedly as Elsa drove smoothly towards St. Normans’. I was about to throw it into the fire when I remembered that the book contained a picture of Prince Audrey. I couldn’t resist the temptation of seeing his picture. I swiftly turned to the page where his picture was printed. I couldn’t bring myself to burn the book with the picture. So I tore out that page folded it and kept it in my pock

One the council elders, Gale, was caught in the fire, his body turned black before collapsing into ash.
