Feeling relieved, Isla hurried back to join Sade and Madison. When they stepped into their own classroom, Isla couldn’t help but notice Marco sitting near the back of the room. He was the new kid from New York, and he already had a reputation for being a bit of a troublemaker. Marco had three sisters, a brother, his mom, and his grandma. Isla had overheard Sade saying that his dad had passed away earlier that year during a robbery. Marco caught sight of Sade as they passed, and without missing a beat, he reached out and gave one of her braids a playful tug.

I shouldn't have listened to Ciara; I should have followed my gut feelings; this was a trap. "I see that she even went as far as wearing a dress similar to Serena's," Marco said. Everyone laughed. Marco was Marcel's immediate junior brother. I and Marco never got along, even when we were still together. My gaze shifted to where Lorenzo senior sat quietly; his eyes were on me. I could see the pity in his eyes, but there was nothing he could do. Was there nothing he could do? Was he just trying to keep shut, so as not to hurt his family?

"Ah, here's Marco's younger brother, Paolo. He's also a footballer." Paolo was as tall and good looking as his brother and he immediately turned on his charm and whisked Eloise away to introduce her to more people. Marco had a big family and Eloise felt like a little bit of an impostor. There was only she and Lenore left of their family and Lenore fit in very well with Marco's family. She soon found out that Marco's dad had been a footballer in his day and his mum was an ex-model, so it explained why everybody were so tall, skinny and attractive. Unfortunately they were also terribly boring.

I quickly jotted the address into my notebook, careful to commit every detail to memory. As I dug deeper, more pieces of Marco’s life fell into place. He wasn’t an only child. He had a younger brother, just 23, and a sister exactly my age. Both names and vague records hinted at lives lived quietly in the background. Their parents, however, were long gone—killed in a car accident years ago. Except they weren't. He made that to protect them. But from what and who? I leaned back, absorbing the information. This wasn’t just about Marco anymore. His family might hold the key to unraveling everything.

Dario's voice was barely hanging on. "I believe it now—the curse is real. Vanessa, only you can save me. Come to my home. Now." Then—click. Call ended. Marco looked over. "We heading to the Morello mansion?" I grinned. "Obviously. Bet it's chaos over there." "I'm coming too." Watching him throw on a shirt, I blinked. Marco's dad and Alfonso were brothers, but a business fallout thirty years ago split the family. Full-on enemies ever since.

Hence, the man gulped down nervously as he continued, "Andrea and Anna's names are practically in everything." "Do you have a problem with that, Marco?" Gabriel asked in an overbearing tone. "Father, Andrea is still a child. And let's not forget she has a weak body and is not healthy enough to shoulder an empire as big as yours. She is my sister and I want what's best for her, father." Marco Accardo, Georgina's son and Valerie's twin brother who had the same thought as his mother and sister was filled with resentment as he said that. However, years of training kept his hatred from showing in his eyes.

Marco trails me quietly. I drop my voice. “So… Zeke’s sister is pregnant with his archnemesis’s baby?” He nods. “Yeah I think you understand it now.” I roll my eyes. “That’s… not okay for him—obviously.” Marco laughs. “That’s a fucking bomb. Consider your family obliterated.” “Yeah, thanks for the imagery.”

I laughed. I knew Marco Arandia had a brother but I'd never met him. He was in the suicide note and that was how far my knowledge of him went. I wondered if this was his biological brother though. Considering they could have talked at home, sending anonymous emails seemed stupid. Besides, Thunder God had talked about Marco's father as though they weren't related. Perhaps Marco took part in a cult with some sort of brotherhood. Or perhaps he meant that they were really good friends once, practically brothers. Or maybe I was thinking too much into it all.

That was the kind of silence in the room when Marco stepped through the threshold and met the twins for the first time. He didn’t say anything at first. Neither did they. Alessia stood just a little to the side, like she couldn’t breathe. Like the air that was shared between them was too fragile to touch. Elijah, bold and curious as always, tilted his head. “Are you mama’s brother?” Marco knelt slowly, not tearing his gaze away. “I am.” His voice cracked. “I didn’t think I’d get to see you. Either of you.” He said, holding their both cheeks.

Marco said with wide eyes. “I had a big family.” She whispered. Marco turned to look at her with a confused expression until it turned to one of sadness. He fidgeted in his seat for a moment, looking down at his hands. He didn’t know what to say to that. “It’s okay, Marco. It’s not something that I hide from people close to me. I even had a little sister younger than you…” She whispered, staring at the melato drink in her mug. “What happened?” He asked, looking up at her.
