Her mouth opened once more, but she thought better of it, turning quickly toward the trailer door. Maris’s assistant shifted uncomfortably, eyes darting between them, but she said nothing. The girl slipped outside, the door clicking shut behind her. She pressed her back to the thin metal wall, her breath shaky. The muffled sound of Maris’s voice bled through—low, poisonous, deliberate. “Let her see how untouchable she really is,” Maris murmured inside, chuckling lightly. Chloe gasped, hand clamping over her mouth. She didn’t fully understand, but something in that tone chilled her blood.

Soft, ambient jazz played from hidden speakers, and the city lights twinkled far below like a bed of scattered diamonds. Chloe, Marcus's girlfriend of two years, swirled a glass of expensive Pinot Noir, her silk robe loosely tied, revealing the smooth, tanned skin of her thighs. She was a vision, with cascading auburn hair and lips painted a deep, sinful red. "You're tense," Marcus murmured, his hands kneading her shoulders from behind. He was all sharp angles and tailored suits, a wolf in the boardroom and, as Chloe knew, in the sheets.

The door opened, and a person walked in. Oval-faced, with delicate and beautiful features, she was dressed in a white off-shoulder lace blouse, tucked into a tight pencil skirt, adorned with a full set of Cartier jewelry. She had her arms draped in a Chanel coat and held an Hermès handbag. It was Chloe. Upon seeing her, Reginard's expression cooled slightly. "What are you doing here?" Chloe swayed her slender waist, elegantly walking behind Reginard. She draped her arm over the back of his chair, leaned down, and her red lips almost brushed against his earlobe. "I heard Reggie was dining here, so I thought I'd come by to say hello."

I said, smiling, she stood up and walked in my direction. “Now, it’s time to make you look like one!” She said. “I thought I was doing a good job with my hair.” She shook her head. “You look like a fucking gothic princess and that’s not the look we are going for.” “What if I’m trying to chase boys away?” I scoffed. “Since when did Raine Mercer chase boys away?” Chloe teased, positioning herself behind me. She hit the play button on her speaker before she got to work. Halfway through, she walked to the kitchen counter and returned with one of those awful canned margaritas she always purchased when we went shopping.

Chloe strode confidently in her stylish silver heels, a perfect match for the dark blush pink robe draped over her black crop top tucked into a pair of high-waisted black Aphrodite trousers. The trouser hugged her perfect curves, adding a touch of elegance to her already stylish outfit. Kayla, her PA, walked behind her with calm strides, keeping Chloe updated on the latest happenings at Girly Lux that occurred overnight. Most of the information would have been leaked by Ollie if she wasn't currently unavailable due to an overdue illness.

Until she arrived. The crowd parted near the entrance like a wave. Chloe Harrington swept in wearing a striking red gown that clung to her model-like body, her long platinum blonde hair cascading dramatically over one shoulder and her heavy perfume trailed her. Her cold light blue eyes scanned the room until they were locked on me. My stomach dropped. Darius was tensed beside me, his arm tightening protectively. “Priscilla Marlow,” Chloe purred loudly enough for nearby guests to turn, a fake smile plastered on her face. “Or should I still call you Mrs. Cross? Chloe glared at Madame Agnes and shouted in anger, "How dare you touch me, you old witch?" Madame Agnes slapped her once more and spoke sternly, "You are not deserving of my son." Chloe laughed maniacally, sneering, "Is that right?" before turning her attention to Margret. Chloe's sinister smile sent a chill down Margret's spine as she asked, "Do you think the same?" Margret hesitated before nodding her head, her face turning ashen. Madame Agnes noticed Chloe's hold on Margret and smirked in satisfaction.

Melissa said, slowly standing up and facing Chloe. Chloe scoffed and looked mighty offended as she turned on her heel and walked to the back of the store. Her hips swayed from side to side, and her eyes narrowed to slits. As she passed Mandy, she tossed out a quick, “Oh, shut up,” and disappeared through the staff door. “Charming,” Melissa mused. Mandy waved her off and shook her head. “Nah, she’s just a whore. It’s all right, though. She knows it too,” Mandy said.

She pulled Tim into a warm, familiar hug, and Tim responded with soft, continental kisses on her cheeks. "Cam, this is Chloe. Chloe Wellman," Tim said, his hand finding the small of Chloe's back—a gesture that felt like both a shield and a claim. "Chloe, this is Camille Laurent." Chloe took a breath, smoothed the invisible wrinkles of her emerald gown, and stepped forward with a wide, radiant smile. She took Camille’s hand, her grip firm yet elegant. "It is such an honour to finally meet you, Camille," Chloe said, her voice steady. "I was just admiring the depth of the shadows in your 'Midnight on the Seine' series. The way you captured the loneliness of the water... It’s haunting."

It didn't take long. Chloe emerged carrying a luxury shopping bag and hopped back into the car. With a flourish, she pulled out a vibrant red blazer and a dark, intricately patterned floral shirt. Xavier stared at the garments, his lip twitching in a mixture of disbelief and horror. "This... is your taste?" Chloe held them up like a trophy. "Exactly. Isn't it stunning?" Xavier’s sword-like brows knit together. "I beg to differ."
