As we walk into the living room, Sarah bends down, and the sound of crackling cardboard fills the air as she opens a large, untaped box. Her smile crinkled the corners of her eyes as she looked up at me, her hand gesturing for me to peer into the mysterious box. As soon as I joined her on the floor, her smile widened. “Your dad and I boxed up your room first. This box contains all your journals. I’m glad you left them here. Or they would have been at the bottom of the lake right now.”

I sighed after our call ended. Fifteen minutes later, the messenger delivered a package. It was a medium sized box. I opened it and found a diary inside. It was Samil's mother's diary, Marie's diary. My hands started to tremble. It felt slightly awkward that I was going to read about the intimate details of her life…

Both girls froze. Maren shot Jenna a questioning look before hopping up. “I’ll get it.” She swung open the door only to gasp. “What the hell…” Jenna twisted around. “What is it?” Maren turned, wide-eyed. “You'd better come look at this.” Jenna rose slowly, her stomach tightening as she stepped closer. The entire hallway was filled with boxes. Dozens of them, stacked high, gleaming with ribbons and gold seals from the most exclusive designer brands in the world.

The day dawned quietly. More than usual. The room still held the scent of Matteo, the warmth of our embrace from the night before.
