I released a breath I didn’t realize I was holding, only to jump slightly at the gentle touch on my shoulder.

“You okay?” he asked quietly.
I bit my lip, unsure how to answer. Physically, I was fine. But emotional, I wasn't.
“I’m alright,” I said finally, then glanced up at him with a faint smirk. “What about you? How’s your busted lip?”
He shrugged, barely reacting. “Never been better.”
I chuckled at the deadpan expression on his face. This was so Mario; unshaken, unreadable, like the world could fall apart and he’d just blink.
