He looked directly at my face, checking my eyes, my forehead, his thumb brushing a streak of black mud away from my temple.
"You're alive," he muttered, his voice dropping an octave.
"Marco..." I choked out, looking past his shoulder.
A few yards away, the matte black charger was idling, its front bumper completely smashed into the side of the unmarked black SUV. Marco Riva was sitting in the driver's seat, his face covered in sweat, his hands shaking so violently he could barely keep them on the steering wheel. He hadn't run because he wanted to; he had used the car as a weapon to clear the ridge.
