May We Never Meet Again
If she wasn’t here… maybe she was somewhere else.
Maybe beyond this world.
Maybe if he went far enough, if he let go completely, he would find her again.
He staggered toward the railing, dragging his weak body step by step. His hands reached out and gripped the cold metal, his fingers tightening around it.
“If I shout loud enough,” he muttered to himself, his voice trembling and broken, “if I go further, maybe she’ll hear me. Maybe she’ll come back.”
He lifted one leg slowly, shakily, over the railing.
