She looked just like her sister the only difference was Maurice was taller and was more observant and matter of fact about her expressions than Elise. She paused, eyes meeting mine. I let her see how angry I was, saw her own frustration rise. "Good night, Sydlynn." "Yeah," I shot back as she turned away, "nice to see you too, Mom." She left without another word, Maurice hurrying her out as Vincent rushed forward and began to clear the table with brief surges of air magic winging the plates and cutlery out from under us.

Martin said firmly. Maurice exhaled, running a hand through his hair. “What do I do now?” Maurice asked worriedly, his usual sharpness nowhere in sight. Martin could only stare at him, helpless. Maurice, known across the business world for his decisiveness and ruthlessness, was reduced to a fool when it came to Mia. “Okay,” Martin finally said, “I think I have an idea of what you should do.” Maurice leaned forward immediately, giving him his full attention, as though Martin was about to solve a complex riddle.

Maurice finally breaks the silence, reaching her hand out to me and smiling when I don’t hesitate to take it. “Be patient with me. Understand that I’m not doing this to hurt anyone. I don’t know where I go from here, and it may not be an easy ride, but I’m trying. Emma made me see sense.” I hate how a fresh tear rolls down my cheek, and I jump nervously when Maurice stands up abruptly, her chair scraping back noisily, and marches towards me like a woman on a mission.
