Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be as the screams get louder before another long whistle blows making me think they got hurt, or worse. Just then another horn sounds off. This one lower and almost baritone, like a foghorn. Then the sound of rocks shifting could be heard, like an earthquake as the walls begin to move on their own. Some lifting while others shifting into weird angles. Kinda like the hunger games, and the weird terrane that tries to kill you as I'm forced into a different passage before it could crush me. What in the world? Moving walls? Are we suddenly in Panem? "For crying out loud” I yell more to myself than to anyone else, realizing this game wouldn’t be considered fair. As this

"...Hide-and-seek in the maze is a training course that ends when you find a book to fill the only bookshelf that is now hidden in the pool. You will need to read and understand them to pass the theory exam. The swimming pool underneath us is 50 meters wide by 100 meters long and has a fully furnished mechanism to move the steel frame around the pool to form a 2-layer underwater maze, 3 meters deep each. There is a night vision camera attached to every corner in case of an emergency. From now on, when you turn on the flashlight, it will signal the technician in the control room to open the way for you to descend into the maze, which will automatically close after you get in the water. “The entrances are below us, the contestants will enter from the far sides. The exit is opposite. You are welcome to make an inspection, if you wish.” Sure, go in to have a look, suddenly there’s a malfunction in the central computer and we’re trapped in there, fighting for our lives. I’ve been to the movies, I wasn’t going to fall for that one. “I’m fine. I think I can see enough from up here to be able to spot any foul play.” There was a tremendous crash, and part of the cavern wall to my left collapsed. A gush of bright yellow lava flooded through the maze, swamping a large area, knocking down walls and provoking screams from animals that just went from wild to absolutely livid.

We were going downhill, further away from the vineyard, out of the flurry of trees in the countryside. In the next ten minutes, Xander was at the foot of the hill. He was at least doing 130, I could barely keep up with him. Where could he possibly be rushing to at this hour? He slowed down at a junction and turned onto another road. I switched my lights on to see, it was darker, and now I had no idea where I was.

She was running and running along the path laid out not knowing where she was going. Eloisa ran all the way to the hospital from the pub, which was almost on the other end of the village. As soon as she heard the news, she closed the pub and ran all the way to the hospital. When she reached her mother's room, she saw her sleep and nurse fixing her saline tube. Eloisa entered the room and the nurse looked up at her. The room smelt so stale and filled with medicinal smell that it made her almost choke. She had never really liked hospitals anyway. She came to the hospital only three times including today. Not once she felt comfortable here. Hospitals always smell of stale and death to her. The

"Welcome to the Gauntlet Run. Racers will navigate a three-mile course through the Ravine Sector. Only the top four finishers advance. The rest are disqualified." Disqualified. Such a clean word for what really happened. The course map appeared on the screens. Narrow pathways, collapsing bridges, and a stretch called the Killing Floor where the path split into three routes. According to Ash's intel, only one route was safe. The other two led straight into traps designed to look like accidents. I touched my helmet, feeling the tiny camera Juno had installed. It was active. Recording. "Racers, take your positions." I moved to the starting line. A girl next to me was shaking so badly I could he

I need to hit something. I park by an abandoned building then head inside. I punch in the eight-digit code by the elevator disguised as a collapsed shaft, and with a click, it drops me four floors into my underground training center. I can already feel the heat from the room along with the familiar smell of blood. The doors slide open to the sound of my men’s grunts and curses as they train. The corridors are narrow with black rubber mats and heavy workout bags. About twenty of my men are scattered across the room. The second they spot me, the room is instantly quiet.

I had never imagined they'd be this brazen, trying something like this right there on a bus. "This is a crime! Aren't you afraid the driver will see?" I shouted in a panic. However, the driver kept his eyes on the road and acted as if he heard nothing happening behind him. Wilson ran a hand along my leg, his face a picture of satisfaction. "Go ahead and scream," he said. "The driver's one of us. You can scream your lungs out, and no one's coming to save you." At that point, despair washed over me. My eyes filled with tears as I looked at them.
