I wiped my face with the back of my sleeve, sniffing hard, but I didn't interrupt her. "Before I came to the Valrok Empire," Maren began, her voice dropping into a raspy, hollow register, "I was an Omega in a southern pack. But I wasn't just a maid, Liora. I was a sex slave." My breath caught in my throat. I stared at the old, respectable healer, trying to reconcile the woman standing before me with the horrors she was speaking of.

Even though Devon was considered a new guy in the social media industry, he was rather good at it, which made Juneau feel a great crisis. Devon ignored him and bowed at Kayson and Sadie. “Mr. Yarde, Ms. Wolfenden, I was sent here to assist you by Mr. Shore. You can call me Devon Harrington.” Sadie smiled at him, “Nice to meet you, Mr. Harrington.” She stretched her arm forward, and both of them shared a handshake. Devon couldn’t help himself and took another glance at Kayson. After all, Royce had reminded him many times, telling him that he had to keep Kayson happy at all costs.

"Adelina." The echo of my name bounces against my barely-standing wooden door. Before I can lift my body off the windowsill, my door swings open, revealing a woman donning what she calls a salwar kameez suit or something like that. Sai Marrow, my adopted mother. She and her late husband, Callum Marrow, adopted me from a run-down, low-equipped orphanage in New Mexico when I was fifteen. They said my soul called to theirs as soon as they saw me. But I had thought they were scientists who just wanted to turn me into some lab rat because of my rare rod-like pupils.

The Earl shrieked in wonder, "You call her a maiden! She is no maiden. She's a thief! A mercenary, unbelievable thief!" He continued barking while he walked backwards away from them, "She handed her drink to the Earl of Vetcom, said things too daring for any normal Scottish woman and stole food. You would not call such person a mai…" He found himself staggering suddenly, noticing he was just at the edge of a ditch, one he didn't notice because he was too busy shouting. While he found himself falling into it, a hand quickly gripped around his hard and tight. Gently, that same hand pulled him up, straight back to his balance. And it was the devil herself.

Kyren Leo found me in my home office at seven in the morning, looking like he'd been up all night. He set a manila folder on my desk. "Miguel Serrano," he said without preamble. "We've got him." I looked up from the shipping manifests I'd been reviewing, my attention immediately focused on the folder. "What did you find?" "More than we hoped for." Leo settled into the chair across from my desk, his expression grim but pleased. "Your future father-in-law isn't going to be happy when he learns that you been having him tailed.”
