It's bullshit. Of course it is. Solve dates and count days. I had a feeling that this was not going to work. Day of the Dead, going to the cemetery. What's the point of having a date marked on the calendar for me to mourn in the first place, when the grief came and went whenever it saw fit and was never announced in advance? But maybe it was too soon. Or maybe it was because the news fell on me from the library a few days ago.

"Yeah, I get it. Grief can make you feel a million things at once." Hearing Edmund talk about grief was like listening to McDonald's talking about Barbie dolls. It just didn't mix. People like Edmund knew next to nothing about grief. The whole world revolves around them, at least in their heads. If anybody died, it didn't matter to them. So, how the hell could he relate to her own grief? Or was that pity speaking?

POV: Luca Here is the thing about grief: after a long enough, you stop feeling it as sadness and start feeling it as weather. It is just the climate you live in. Sometimes it is mild, and you almost forget it is there. Sometimes it rolls in fast and you cannot see six feet in front of you. You learn to function in both conditions, and eventually, people stop noticing you are functioning in any condition at all, because you have gotten so good at the surface.

He is not aware that he will see her again - he feels he has lost every precious thing in his life which has become meaningless. Mourners, their hearts heavy with sorrow, taking turns approaching the casket to pay their respects. Some lay flowers, personal mementos, or handwritten notes on top of the casket, expressing their love and gratitude. Others hold each other tightly, finding solace in the shared embrace of grief and the knowledge that they are not alone in their sorrow.

I watched as my pack and allies approached the symbolic grave, each one carrying their own burden of loss. The whispers of the wind seemed to echo the collective sighs of those who mourned, as we bowed our heads in silent tribute. My body went still. “Some people shut down completely, pretending they’re okay while everything inside is rotting.”

On the fourth day, they created a personal ritual/ ceremony to mark the passing of the deceased as a meaningful way to honor her memory and process grief On the fifth day, they learned to crotchet and they both did a memory quilt which was supposed to serve as a meaningful object to remember her by. On the 6th day, they went on a hike where they released balloons and lanterns into the air to symbolize their love and letting go. On the last day of their grief management, they had a mini dinner and get-together in her name where not more than 10 people were in attendance. I muttered. I sank to my knees and closed my eyes. My knee pressed to the dirt, the mud and the ashes. My shoulders sagged, my entire body sagged. I was tired, very tired.
