Rosaria Darkness. There was total darkness. The place I woke up in felt empty but most of all, I couldn’t see anything. All I could see was darkness and ……. Nothing. The area was devoid of any life form, I could not feel my heart beat either. ‘Did…….I …….die?

The hollow dark grey sky hovered over the lonely tower. The pitter-patter of rain echoed throughout the desolate and dark walls. Yet, the sky and its friends weren't the only ones who were gloomy. Inside the gloomy dark tower sat a man, his body perched over the window still. Hollow eyes staring only God knows where any passer-by would only think that he was probably dead with the way his eyes stared off into space, no emotion, no reaction, eyes completely passionless.

“Answer me this: I speak without a mouth and hear without ears. I have no body, but I come alive with the wind. What am I?” Xienma felt a spark of inspiration. “An echo!” she exclaimed, her voice ringing with confidence. The sprites giggled and clapped, their laughter echoing off the canyon walls. “Correct! But there are more to come! Here’s another: What can fill a room but takes up no space?” Cassie furrowed her brow, deep in thought. “Light? It fills a room but doesn’t take up any space.”

The hollow echoes of their footsteps filled the abandoned chamber as Zoe, Cassius, and Sara stepped inside. The room was eerily empty - bare stone walls stretched out in every direction, the air stagnant and heavy. Not a single piece of furniture, decoration, or personal item remained. It was as if the space had never been occupied, a ghostly shell devoid of life. Zoe’s eyes swept across the chamber, her brow furrowing. “It’s like they vanished into thin air.”

* "Watch me." Reality flickered. The darkness wavered. And for just a second, I could see. Really see. Not the illusions. Not the figures made of guilt and grief. But the truth. The Void wasn't full of lost souls. It was empty. Completely empty. There was no Cara. No family. No one. Just darkness and the echoes of fear it used to trap the living. And I was almost gone. Almost nothing. Just the barest spark of consciousness left, surrounded by endless dark.

“Not searching for anything specific, just observing, like exploring a cave you’ve never been in. No expectations about what you’ll find, just curiosity.” “I’m reaching.” “What do you see?” “Darkness, emptiness. The same thing I always see.” “Don’t judge it or label it bad or wrong. Just observe it. What does the darkness feel like?” “It feels cold and vast. Like standing at the edge of something enormous I can’t see.” “Good. Stay with that feeling. Don’t try to fill or fix the emptiness, just be present with it. Let it exist without fighting.” We sat in silence. The sun finished setting, and the moon began to rise. Pale light filtered through the trees, illuminating the clearing.

Desperate. The First Dark was patient darkness. Quiet. Waiting. Ancient. We floated in it. Not falling. Not flying. Just existing in space that had no direction. No up or down. No light or dark. Just grey. Endless grey. “Hello?” I called out. My voice did not echo. Just disappeared into nothing. No answer. “We come to talk. To understand. To find peace if possible.” Kade’s voice also vanished. Swallowed by silence. Still nothing.

Not the Hollow. Something older. Something watching. And waiting.

Now silence fills the space where words once lived. A space waits ahead, untouched. Nothing fills it yet. We write with the same hand, side by side.

Neither of them speaks. The embers go dark around them one by one.
